LUIS SUAREZ WILL inform Liverpool this summer that he wants to move to Spain with Real Madrid and Barcelona set to grapple for his signature.
That’s according to The Sunday Times who claims both clubs are set to pay 85m euro to activate the release clause in the striker’s contract.
Duncan Castles writes that the Uruguayan, who has already scored twice at the World Cup despite missing his country’s first game due to injury, has harboured long-time ambitions to play in La Liga and despite having enjoyed his time on Merseyside, he’s ready to leave.
Suarez reportedly was unhappy last year when Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, dug their heels in and refused to entertain a bid from Arsenal despite the £40m bid activating the previous release clause in the attacker’s contract. Coupled with Liverpool’s failure to qualify for last season’s Champions League, Suarez was seemingly frustrated that the club didn’t follow through with previously-agreed contractual details.
Coupled with that, Castles argues that Suarez was far from happy with Brendan Rodgers’ comments that Liverpool didn’t miss the attacker at the start of last season when he was serving a substantial suspension.
The comments Suarez made after Uruguay’s 2-1 World Cup win over England last Thursday have also raised eyebrows with him condemning those in the UK who had questioned his attitude over the last number of years.
Barcelona’s transfer embargo has been suspended while their appeal is on-going and it’s thought the Catalan club are better placed to secure Suarez’s signature because his wife’s family already live in the city.
