Didi Hamann: 'I think Liverpool would be better off without Luis Suarez'

The former Reds midfielder had some harsh words for the Uruguayan striker.

LUIS SUAREZ MAY have told a Uruguayan newspaper that he was going to stay at Liverpool but one former Red would be happy to see the striker out of Anfield gates.

Didi Hamann, in an interview with talkSPORT, declared that Brendan Rodger’s side would be better off without Suarez.

Hamann said, “I said that a long time ago that I thought he disrespected the football club, and the history and the heritage of the club.”

The German, who often works with RTÉ as a football pundit, played 191 times for Liverpool and won the Champions League with the club in 2005.

He added, “I think the club will be better without him and I don’t think the team will be worse off without him. In football you need a team. One player doesn’t make a team, one player doesn’t make a football club.

“As we have seen in the past, the likes of [Fernando] Torres, and [Kenny] Dalglish have left in the past. [Robbie] Fowler, [Ian] Rush, [Michael] Owen all left and the club always carried on. Most important is a good team and the man who is in charge.”

What do you make of Hamann’s comments?

Suarez on the scoresheet

Suarez was in action for Uruguay earlier today and scored his country’s third goal in a 4-2 win over Japan. Shinsi Kagawa netted for the home side but the tie was effectively settled by two crisply taken goals from former Manchester United forward Diego Forlan.
