LUIS SUAREZ CELEBRATED Barcelona’s final La Liga game of 2014 with his first league goal for the club in their 5-0 win over Cordoba at the Camp Nou.

The hosts got off to a flying start as Pedro Rodriguez, once again deputising for Neymar, opened the scoring with a smart finish from Ivan Rakitic’s wonderful through ball inside two minutes.

Barca then struggled to build on their lead for the rest of the first period, but Suarez capped another quick start to the second period when he poked home from close range to end a seven-game drought in the league since returning from a four-month ban for biting.

After joining the Catalan outfit in the summer and serving a four-month ban for a bite on Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, Suarez had gone seven Liga games without finding the net before his second half strike against the Andalusian outfit.

Despite racking up 31 goals in the Premier League for Liverpool last season, Suarez has initially struggled to replicate such goalscoring form in Spain, with his only two goals for the club before Saturday coming in the Champions League against APOEL and Paris Saint-German.

At his previous clubs Ajax and Liverpool, Suarez had gone eight full games without a goal.

Gerard Pique headed in a third before Messi rounded off the scoring with two stunning finishes in the final 10 minutes.

Victory moves Barca six points clear of champions Atletico Madrid, who visit Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

Real Madrid will end the year on top despite having played a game less than the Catalans as they take on San Lorenzo in the final of the Club World Cup later.
