LIVERPOOL HAVE BEEN dealt a major blow with the news that Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva will miss the next two to three months with a thigh injury.
The player suffered the injury in the opening minutes of Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City at Anfield and could now be sidelined until late November as a result.
“It is very unfortunate,” said Reds manager Brendan Rodgers. “He has worked ever so hard to come back and he has been an outstanding player for me and person off the field as well.
“The indications are two to three months. It is quite a unique injury at the top of his right thigh.
“He has had a scan and we will see a specialist this evening. We’ll see if it needs an operation or whether it is just recuperation.”
The 25-year-old had only just won his place back after missing most of last season with a serious knee injury.
“No words to describe my feelings at the moment,” he wrote on Twitter. “It is been hard to be positive but I am sure better days will come.”
Let me guess, united fan? Suppose you think welbeck and cleverly are outstanding.
Lucas got injured all of last season and team couldn’t cope without him. Now please don’t get back to me on this because I’m sick to death of reading utd fans commenting more on Liverpool posts here than actual Liverpool fans
Better than any present united central midfield player
Poor guy, outstanding player
Outstanding?!!! Jesus your definition of that word differs to mine!! Handy player yes, outstanding? Nowhere near!! I suppose you think Walcott is outstanding too?
Lost for 5 weeks?.That was some game of ‘hide and seek’
Good player but not fantastic. I am a United fan and I think he is much better than Cleverly and Anderson allright
Sorry,3 months…Big blow for Liverpool in their fight for 5th place this season.
