Louth and Galway make winning starts in Division 2

The Tribesmen secured an impressive victory over Derry at Celtic Park, while Paddy Keenan was the standout performer for Louth.

AT HAGGARDSTOWN, PADDY Keenan inspired Louth to a 0-12 to 1-6 win over Westmeath in the Allianz Football League, Division 2.

The team’s captain was making his 100th inter-county appearance and it was his four points that ultimately made the difference.

At Celtic Park, Galway impressed as they secured a 1-15 to 1-11 win over Derry.

A goal from Gareth Bradshaw made all the difference in Alan Mulholland’s first league game in charge of the Tribesmen.

The first six points of the game were shared but the Oak Leaf County went clear, when Cailean O’Boyle fisted to the net to make it 1-3 to 0-3.

Galway chipped away with a couple more points before Bradshaw’s goal swung the game, but Mark Lynch pointed to give the hosts an ideal start to the second half and Chrissy McKaigue closed the gap further.

Finally, Galway managed to make their advantage stick and they finished far stronger. Michael Martin, Joe Bergin and Nicky Joyce all bagged late points to stretch the gap to four with just a minute remaining.

Wexford, Longford and Roscommon all tasted victory in Division 3, while Clare, Wicklow and Limerick were all winners in Division 4.
