Man United deny reports that Van Gaal is being lined up to take over

The current Dutch manager is favourite to replace David Moyes at the Premier League club.

MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE dismissed press reports in the Netherlands that the club had agreed a three-year deal with Louis van Gaal for him to replace the sacked David Moyes as coach.

Popular broadsheet De Telegraaf said Saturday that “the national coach (Van Gaal) late last (Friday) night reached a deal with the top British club,” to take over as manager after the World Cup.

“The man who’s the absolute number one to replace axed coach David Moyes will immediately take up the job when the Dutch Eleven is knocked out of the World Cup in Brazil,” the paper added.

Van Gaal, 62, who has been on holiday at his villa in Portugal’s Algarve “has been in talks with Ed Woodward, lawyer for club owners the Glazer brothers for a multi-year, multi-million contract,” it said, without citing any sources.

But United, who have put veteran player Ryan Giggs in charge until the end of the season, quickly denied the reports.

“There is nothing to report. We have not signed a new manager. When we have something to report, we will announce it,” a club spokesman said.

Any move for Van Gaal would now appear to run against the wishes of former manager Alex Ferguson, a club director who is still hugely influential.

The Scot, whose retirement teed up the appointment of Moyes – a decision he was a driving force behind – on Friday appeared to put his weight behind Giggs getting the job on a full-time basis.

I think that he [Giggs] is the one man they should go to really,” Ferguson said at a charity dinner, according to the Daily Telegraph.

“He’s got 20-odd years of experience at Manchester United. I signed him as a kid at 13 years of age. He’s gone through the gamut of emotions at the club – he’s experienced all the highs and lows.”

The Dutch press report said that included in the deal would be a 100 million euros ($138 million) fund in transfer fees to beef up United’s flagging fortunes.

Van Gaal — whose stylish way of football and no-nonsense attitude has earned him the nickname the “Iron Tulip”, quickly emerged as a front-runner to take over the hot seat at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman brings with him a long list of successes including several Dutch titles with top club Ajax and unfashionable AZ Alkmaar, a Bundesliga crown with Bayern Munich and Spanish championship with Barcelona.

Van Gaal — who has long said he wanted to move to British football after the World Cup — has in the past also been linked a possible deal with Tottenham.

As well as getting rid of moyes they should tell fergie to go as well . This romantic notion of putting giggs , scholes & the 2 nevilles in charge is some joke none of them has much experience of coaching or management .its all very well looking good analysing games on sky sports but its a different kettle of fish in the pressure of games to change tactics & influence games . Just because some one was a good player dosent mean there going to be a good manager/ coach theres exceptions in guardiola, ancellotti , simone but most of the good coaches had limited playing careers – mourinho, klopp, wegner , rodgers . All fergie wants is someone like giggs & the rest to be puppets for him he wont leave old trafford till hes forced to go. As a liverpool fan i hope they give giggs & co. The job as i cant see too many top players going to a club with a rookie coaching team & no champions league . their hand could be forced as the top men have distanced themselves from the job only van gaal wants the job .

I’d be much happier seeing Klopp/ancellotti as manager instead of that arrogant fella.

Comment by Ferguson makes no sense unless he is trying to retain influence. If Giggs is good enough then why wasn’t he recommended 10 months ago? What has he done in the last ten months that would make Ferguson think he’s ready now?

If there’s any justice then Ryan Giggs should get his arse handed to him today around tea time… But they have a easy enuff game so sadly that probably won’t happen….

Fergies prowess as a tactician were blown to pieces twice when he was given a lesson on how to play the game twice in the champions league final by Barcelona. And he wasn’t good enough to take United to their level. That’s when I stopped watching United after 40 years and being a season ticket for 5 years when I lived in Manchester. The premier league in over rated.

They are really gona have to let go of the nostalgia if they want to get back to being a successful club in the future. Ferguson cannot be trusted anymore. He made a lot of poor signings before he left and then anointed a manager who wasn’t good enough. Giggs would be an even bigger gamble than Moyes. What they need after there recent failures is the stability of an experienced manager.

LVG is a top manager, he’s just arriving 10 months late.
I doubt the board will listen to Fergie ever again.
