Late goal leaves Longford and Bray all-square in promotion/relegation play-off

David O’Sullivan’s 83rd-minute equaliser earned the away side a draw at the Carlisle Grounds.

LONGFORD TOWN CAME back from 2-0 down to draw the first leg of their Airtricity League promotion/relegation play-off with Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds tonight.

The Seagulls finished 11th in the Premier Division meaning they faced Longford — runners-up in the First Division and winners against Mervue United after a dramatic penalty shootout last Friday.

Jason Byrne opened the scoring for the home team after just eight minutes when he followed up Kevin O’Connor’s strike which had come back off the crossbar.

The 35-year-old then doubled his tally just after the half-hour mark with a lob over the head of Chris Bennion.

However, the visitors hit back on 61 minutes through Dean Ebbe and with seven minutes on the clock David O’Sullivan fired home from the edge of the box to level the terms going into Friday’s second leg at at the City Calling Stadium.
