Croker calling as London and Cavan to kick off football triple-header

Croke Park will host a bumper day of Round 4 qualifiers on Saturday.

Updated 12.25

LONDON AND CAVAN’S battle for a place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals will kick off a Croke Park triple-header on Saturday.

The 3pm clash opens a bumper bill of football qualifiers which also sees Cork meet Galway (5pm) and Meath take on Tyrone (7pm).

The remaining Round 4 game between beaten Ulster finalists Donegal and Laois has been fixed for Saturday in Carrick-on-Shannon with a 5pm throw-in.

London’s historic appearance in their first Connacht final ended in resounding defeat yesterday as Mayo ran out winners by 16 points in McHale Park.

But Paul Coggins’ side, who have been one of the success stories of the Football Championship this summer, will be front and centre again in Headquarters this weekend.

Standing in the Exiles’ way are Cavan who are 70 minutes away from the last eight for the first time since 1997. Terry Hyland’s men needed extra-time before they came through a thrilling tussle with Derry on Saturday.

Meanwhile Donegal have just six days to regroup after their shock defeat to Monaghan in the Ulster final yesterday. They play Laois who beat Wexford on Saturday.

Galway, who were five-point winners against Armagh, play beaten Munster finalists Cork while Meath, who were beaten in the Leinster final by Dublin eight days ago, take on a Tyrone side fresh from their win against Kildare.

The four winners of Saturday’s Round 4 matches will then play one of the four provincial champions with Dublin, Kerry, Mayo and Monaghan all waiting in the quarter-finals.

Agreed. The absence of Bale was huge for Spurs, Inter were far superior..

Not a great team out…defoe and adebyour not good enough quality at this level..livermore a poor player..gallas badly found out at the other end..expect to see a stronger team for the quarters..obviously Bale transforms the team..no question about that..they won’t be far away from winning this competition..
