Liverpool won't sell Suarez as PFA offer 'anger management' following bite row

Suarez was fined by Liverpool this morning with the money going towards the Hillsborough Family Support Group.

LIVERPOOL WILL NOT sell Luis Suarez, managing director Ian Ayre said as the fallout from the strikerโ€™s bite on Branislav Ivanovic continues.

Suarez was fined by Liverpool this morning as the club wait to see what action FA officials will take following the controversy at Anfield.

The Professional Footballersโ€™ Association revealed that they will offer anger management counselling to the Uruguyan, who faces a lengthy ban after he was seen to bite Ivanovic during yesterdayโ€™s 2-2 draw against Chelsea.

Suarez was at the heart of the afternoonโ€™s drama, setting up strike partner Daniel Sturridge for Liverpoolโ€™s first goal before conceding a penalty which allowed Chelsea to take the lead again.

The PFA Player of the Year nominee then snatched a point with a equaliser in the seventh minute of stoppage time but the late heroics were overshadowed by his latest on-field controversy.

The incident divided Liverpoolโ€™s former pros with Graeme Souness saying that it would be very difficult for Suarez to stay at Liverpool while John Barnes said that he will have to suffer the consequences, but dismissed talk of selling or sacking him as โ€œridiculous.โ€

Ayre, who cancelled a scheduled trip to Australia to deal with an incident which is โ€œnot befitting of any player wearing a Liverpool shirtโ€, said that the club will work with Suarez on his discipline.

But after speaking with Liverpoolโ€™s American owners, he insisted that the events of the last 24 hours will not have any bearing on the playerโ€™s future.

โ€œIt affects his future in the sense that we have to work with him on his discipline โ€“ but Luis is a very important player to the club,โ€ Ayre told LiverpoolFC.com.

โ€œHeโ€™s a very popular player with his teammates. As we keep saying, he signed a new four-year contract last summer and weโ€™d all love to see him here throughout that contract.

Heโ€™s a fantastic player, top scorer and everything weโ€™d want in a striker, so thereโ€™s no change there. This is more about getting him back on the right track and itโ€™s largely down to [manager Brendan Rodgers] now to work with him on that side of his character.

Suarez, who spoke with Ivanovic to apologise for his โ€œinexcusable behaviourโ€, conceded last night that he had let down everyone involved with the club. The internal fine will be donated to the Hillsborough Family Support Group at his request, Liverpool confirmed this morning.

Now he must wait for the FA to examine referee Kevin Friendโ€™s match report as well as the video evidence before deciding how to proceed. In November 2010 while at Dutch club Ajax, Suarez was banned for seven league matches for biting PSVโ€™s Ottman Bakkal on the shoulder.

Last season he was hit with an eight-match suspension and fined ยฃ40,000 after a lengthy FA disciplinary hearing found that he had racially abused Manchester United defender Patrice Evra during a Premier League match between the sides.

โ€œYou can see when you speak to him how sorry he is about it and heโ€™s certainly shown quite a lot of contrition to us,โ€ Ayre said.

I think he felt like he let a lot of people down yesterday. Weโ€™ll work with Luis โ€“ Brendan particularly โ€“ on this side of his character in his game. Hopefully that puts the matter to rest from our point of view and weโ€™ll wait and see if thereโ€™s any further action from the football authorities.

He added: โ€œWith any incident like this, any major incident at the club, weโ€™re in direct dialogue with the owners, always. I spoke to them last night and they were happy with the way we were handling the matter.โ€

If you you elbowed somebody or did a sliding tackle on them in the street youโ€™d also be charged. So by your logic any player thatโ€™s guily of these offrnces on the pitch should also be charged.

Ivanafish and Chips might have small mark on his arm from this but heโ€™s already accepted his apology and moved on. Suarez deserves a ban but the only thing thatโ€™s odd about this is that heโ€™s bit him, wouldnโ€™t have even been as sore and some of the normal tackles that go in. Heโ€™ll get banned and rightly so but thereโ€™s no need for the ridiculous hyperbole.

It was one of the most disgraceful things Iโ€™ve seen in Soccer, and before anybody starts โ€“ yes I would rank it up there with Cantonas kung fu kick
However I think he should receive a lengthy ban in the region of 4-6 months as this isnโ€™t the first time he has tried to do this , he is a terrible role model for Liverpool foot ball club
Should he be sold- Yes and No,
Yes because heโ€™s a disgrace and No because who do u get to replace him
If I had to choose even if he was a Utd player โ€“ Iโ€™d say no publicly and hope to get an inflated bid for him in the summer and begrudgingly let him p*ss off and be somebody elseโ€™s problem
Iโ€™d would also like to hear what Ivanovic thinks of all this โ€“ I wonder should there be a police investigation cause if that happened on the street there would

The only reason a united fan is calling for us to get rid of him is fear. Be afraid. Weโ€™ll be on the heals of a decidedly average utd team with a faltering ageing manager next season.

Neither of these situations put either great club in any position but awful. I am surprised Pool have only fined him, and I am a โ€˜Pool fan, but who knows what has been said behind closed doors, including chelsea. Cantonaโ€™s situation is somewhat familiar. Great player, who had been building up serious bad press with his tantrums and stamping, much like Suarez has done with diving. I guess the difference here was Cantona took it into the stands, crossed a major line. Not saying Suarez did not cross the line too, but once it leaves the field it becomes a different issue. The FA also has archaic rules, like if the referee does not have it in his report, or if a free was giving for itโ€ฆ something stupidโ€ฆ

Most of come on here and long for the old days when a player could make a tackle and the players sorted things out like men. Then when a player goes in two footed or there is an elbow your all on here crying. His act was not the act of a man it was shocking and he will be banned. Get down of your high horse though. The behaviour of most professional football players is beyond the realms of most of us consider normal. Burning money etc.
