Cork City: McNulty, Murphy, Kavanagh, Horgan, Murray, Morrissey, Horgan, Duggan, O’Neill, Parker, Sullivan.
19.12 – There are six other fixtures later this evening and we will keep you up to date on how they pan out.
7.45pm unless stated:
- Bohemians v Avondale United
- Drogheda United v Wexford Youths
- Malahide United v Dundalk
- UCD v Derry City
- Waterford United v Mervue United
- Shelbourne v Cherry Orchard, 8pm
We chatted to former Dundalk player Vinny Perth, who these days manages Leinster Senior League side Malahide United. Read the full interview here.
DUNDALK WILL BE met by a familiar face when they arrive at Gannon Park later today.
The Lilywhites are in FAI Ford Cup third round action tonight and have been drawn with Leinster Senior League outfit Malahide United – who these days are managed by none other than Vinny Perth.
19.18 – The visitors have had the best effort of the opening 10 minutes but Oscar Jansson did excellently to spread himself and keep Vinny Sullivan at bay.
It looks a disappointing turn-out at Tallaght Stadium but the fans who have shown up are making themselves heard.
19.22 – Ronan Finn, who scored an absolute belter for the Hoops in their draw with Sligo Rovers last week, has had two efforts on goal in the last couple of minutes. Cork ‘keeper Mark McNulty comfortably saves the first before the midfielder’s next attempt sails over the bar.
19.28 – A long ball is played out of the Cork defence and Jansson collides with striker Keigan Parker before Craig Sives heads clear. The recent signing isn’t happy with being knocked to the floor and appeals for a free-kick but referee Padraigh Sutton is having none of it.
19.32 – Neither team have been able to play with any real fluidity so far but Cork will be slightly happier with how things have gone. Rovers struggling to create chances in the final third at the moment.
19.35 – McNulty drops a cross when Gary McCabe lofts the ball in from the left but recovers swiftly before a Rovers player can capitalise on the mistake.
19.39 – Bit on an understatement…
19.41 – Stephen Kenny’s side win a free-kick about 25 yards out from goal and up steps McCabe. The former Sligo Rovers winger gets his angles all wrong, however, and shoots well with. 10 minutes until half-time.
19.43 – Best chance of the game. Kerrea Gilbert gets down the right flank for the first time and collects a pass from Turner on the overlap. His cross is a good one but Twigg can’t direct his header on target.
19.46 – More promising signs. Ex-Blackburn Rovers youth teamer Gearoid Morrissey cuts in onto his left which takes a nick off the trailing leg of an opposining defender and goes wide. A goal-kick is then (wrongly) awarded.
Cork boss Tommy Dunne to RTE Sport: “It’s an even enough game. The conditions are quite difficult. I think it’s going to be one of those games where it’s who makes the first mistake. They’re dangerous but we’re doing okay ourselves.”
19.51 – Five of the six other games being played tonight have just kicked off. Three intermediate sides, Cherry Orchard, Malahide United and Avondale United, are looking to cause upsets against their respective Airtricity League opponents.
19.52 – Half-time: Shamrock Rovers 0-0 Cork City
20.02 – GOAL! Malahide United 0-1 Dundalk (Gary Shanahan)
The visitors have taken an early lead at Gannon Park.
20.06 – At least they’re enjoying themselves. Wonder what song it is…
20.10 – And we’re back. Rovers have no doubt been given a stalking to by Stephen Kenny during the interval and straight away are on the attack. Ciaran Kilduff, who had a quiet opening 45 minutes, is unable to make decent contact with a header and McNulty collects.
Over in Phisboro, Bohs striker David Scully has missed a penalty.
20.12 – Better from the current Premier Division champions. Turner and Twigg combine to set up Finn, whose snap shot is a couple of yards wide of the mark.
Then Turner himself tries his luck from distance. The strike is straight at the Cork stopper and he palms over for a corner.
20.14 – Keigan Parker was sent off on his Cork debut a few weeks ago and the Scottish striker is the first man into Sutton’s book.
20.17 – Big miss for the away side. Daryl Horgan (who is a ringer for Damien Duff) ghosts in at the back post but blazes his volley over. Davin O’Neill then brings the best out of Jansson with a good strike.
20.18 – GOAL! Drogheda United 1-0 Wexford Youths (Peter Hynes)
20.20 – WTF? Bohemians have missed a second chance to score from the spot. This time Danny Joyce is the culprit.
20.22 – Fine run from Daryl Horgan but he can’t match it with the finish. Thankfully, the second half has already been a much better spectacle than the first 45.
20.25 – Substitution for Shamrock Rovers: Chris Turner off and Billy Dennehy comes on in his place to give the hosts some much-needed width.
20.31 – GOAL! Shamrock Rovers 1-0 Cork City (Tommy Stewart)
Talk about making an instant impact! Tommy Stewart trots onto the field as Rovers are about to take a free-kick and seconds laters the striker taps home with his first touch after a brilliant cut-back by Billy Dennehy.
20.37 – GOAL! Shelbourne 0-1 Cherry Orchard (Mark Hughes)
Shels trail LSL Senior Division side Cherry Orchard at Tolka Park.
20.39 – GOAL! Shamrock Rovers 2-0 Cork City (Tommy Stewart)
Stewart has set this tie alight since being introduced. His second strike from all of 20 yards flies past McNulty and into the top corner.
20.41 – GOAL! Bohemians 1-0 Avondale United (Evan McMillan)
20.42 – GOAL! Malahide United 0-2 Dundalk (Mark Griffin)
20.43 – GOAL! Shelbourne 1-1 Cherry Orchard (Philly Hughes)
20.51 – Just two minutes of stoppage time remain and the Hoops are progressing to the quater-finals now it seems.
20.50 – Conor McCormack is Kenny’s third change and he makes a speedy impact of his own by picking up a yellow for a clumsy challenge on Morrissey.
20.56 – Full-time: Shamrock Rovers 2-0 Cork City
21.28 – GOAL! Malahide United 0-3 Dundalk (Lorcan Shannon)
21.31 – GOAL! UCD – Derry City (David McDaid)
21.38 – GOAL! Malahide United 0-4 Dundalk (Bob McKenna)
21.41 – Full-time: Drogheda United 1-0 Wexford Youths
21.43 – GOAL! Shelbourne 3-1 Cherry Orchard (Conan Byrne)
21.44 – Full-time: Bohemians 1-0 Avondale United
21.45 – Full-time: Malahide United 0-4 Dundalk
21.47 – Full-time: UCD 0-1 Derry City
21.49 – GOAL! Shelbourne 3-2 Cherry Orchard (Mark Hughes)
21.57 – Full-time: Shelbourne 3-2 Cherry Orchard
