Hello, and welcome to today’s liveblog. The teams are out…
MAN UNITED: De Gea; Rafael, McNair, Rojo, Shaw; Blind; Valencia, Di Maria; Mata; Falcao, van Persie.
EVERTON: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka (c), Stones, Baines, Barry, Besic, Pienaar, McGeady, Naismith, Lukaku.
In his pre-match interview, Roberto Martinez suggests James McCarthy will be out for both the Ireland games rather than just the Gibraltar match.
Bad news assuming it turns out to be true.
Do you agree?
Ji Sung Park is being announced as United’s ambassador, with Fergie accompanying him onto the pitch.
In his interview, the former United boss recalled the match where Park “snuffed Pirlo out of the game” in a past clash with AC Milan.
2 mins: Positive start for United, as they get the first half-chance of the game.
Shaw crosses for Falcao, whose header is comfortably saved by Howard.
6 mins: Another chance for United, as Di Maria’s cross finds the onrushing Van Persie, who fails to find the target with his finish.
The Red Devils are well on top in the opening stages, with Everton looking more than a little vulnerable at the back.
As I type, Van Persie gets booked for a late tackle on Barry.
Hear, hear!
13 mins: McNair versus Lukaku should be an interesting battle.
The Irish defender has stood up well to his opponent so far, and he blocks the Belgian international’s cross for a corner as I type.
18 mins: Glorious flick from Di Maria to find Falcao, who drags his shot just wide.
United have been bright and inventive in attack so far, though Everton are looking a bit more solid now following some early nerves.
23 mins: Everton get caught in possession, leading to Di Maria eventually taking a pot shot.
The Argentine international’s shot is deflected just over, as United continue to look the more likely team to break the deadlock.
Man United 1-0 Everton (Di Maria 26)
A cross is only half-cleared, and Mata lays the ball off for Di Maria.
The summer signing then curls the ball beautifully into the net to give the hosts a deserved lead.
Here’s the goal that’s given United the lead.
37 mins: Jagielka makes a well-timed tackle on Van Persie in the area.
He needed to get that right — otherwise United would have had a penalty.
39 mins: Lukaku gets in behind McNair for the first time, but his subsequent shot is a few inches wide.
The Antrim-born defender has played well for the most part, but that’s a little reminder that he can’t afford to let his concentration drop in the presence of the Belgian international.
BAINES MISSES!
45 mins: Poor from Luke Shaw, as he needlessly dives in to bring down Tony Hibbert.
However, De Gea saves Baines’ penalty brilliantly.
It’s the first time the England international has missed a penalty in the Premier League.
51 mins: Good work from Luke Shaw down the left, and Falcao’s subsequent shot is deflected wide.
The striker still hasn’t opened his United account, but it’s not through lack of effort anyway, as he’s been very lively today.
Man United 1-1 Everton (Naismith 55)
Baines plays a beautiful ball in to find an unmarked Naismith, who heads home.
Again, poor defence from United lets them down.
58 mins: Baines plays a corner in and a Jagielka header has to be cleared off the line.
Everton’s confidence is up after that goal, while United are now looking a little shaky at the back.
Man United 2-1 Everton (Falcao 62)
Out of nothing, Falcao gets on the end of a cross-shot to slide home and restore United’s lead.
Everton will be kicking themselves, having worked so hard to get back in this game.
Here’s a look at the two most recent goals.
71 mins: Intriguingly, Tyler Blackett has replaced the injured Shaw, while James Wilson is set to come on too.
Blackett will slot straight in at left-back.
73 mins: Falcao’s day is over, as James Wilson replaces him.
The youngster, who also played and scored for United last season, is “the talk of the academy” according to BT Sport co-commentator Michael Owen.
Everton will surely look to exploit United’s lack of experience.
77 mins: Everton make a double change — Browning replaces Hibbert, while Osman is on for McGeady.
The Irish international will be disappointed, particularly as Everton need a goal, so you’d think his services would be required.
Meanwhile, United make their final change, with Fellaini replacing Valencia.
Good stat from BT Sport — United have now played as many players this season as they did in the whole of last season.
Is Van Gaal the new tinkerman?
84 mins: Everton are still toiling away, but don’t really look like scoring despite United’s inexperience at the back.
Looks like it’s going to be another three points for Louis van Gaal’s men.
86 mins: Good ball in by Browning, but Naismith doesn’t really connect properly with the header while under pressure from the defender.
Shortly thereafter, Osman hammers a shot from the edge of the area that De Gea does well to get down and save.
88 mins: Michael Owen names Angel Di Maria as Man of the Match.
As I type, Di Maria plays through Van Persie, but Stones does very well to get back and make a recovery tackle.
89 mins: Everton break and Naismith plays it to Osman, whose shot is well saved by De Gea.
It’s been less than convincing from United at the back, particularly in this second half, and Osman had far too much space there.
90 mins: Incredible save from De Gea.
Besic catches the ball well, but the goalkeeper manages to tip the ball over superbly.
Here’s a look at THAT save from De Gea.
Right, that’s it from me, but you can follow Eoin O’Callaghan’s liveblog of Arsenal v Chelsea here.
Thanks for reading and commenting, and we’ll have more reaction to come.
Its so funny reading the same stupid comments from the same stupid people on every United article. We get it lads. You think untied are finished. Every one we sign is shit and everyone we sell is world class suddenly. You’re bitterness and hatred make me laugh and smile every time I read your comments. keep them coming. I know we should have signed lambert and lallana and not DiMaria and Falcao
+100 Barry.
I think it’s sad that a grown man refers to an English soccer team as “we”
Or maybe that’s a picture of your father!
Did you see Lallana’s goal yesterday? Absolute class so don’t see what your point is. Clearly DiMaria is better but I wouldn’t say there’s a £40m gap between them.
‘We’ referd to the United fan’s who comment on the score. Would you like me to explain anything else for you?
Where’s Graham Kavanagh? Had United lost he’d have about six posts by now. Mind the gap , Liverpool!
Mind the gap!!!funny man!!
How many pts will ye be ahead of Liverpool at the end of the month?
I can’t say for sure Sam . But normal service is resumed regarding Man U being ahead of Liverpool. All last season when I’d meet up with mates who support Liverpool they had a smirk on their faces. They’re not smirking now. They’re also rans without Lector. Never won the Premier league. Not once. Carragher shuffled out of the game without a league winners medal and Gerrard will be doing the same.. Its a wonderful world.
Well enjoy it while it lasts cos ye have some savage games coming up and ye will do well to be top 4 come christmas
Fair play to u for familiarizing ur self with Uniteds fixtures. I couldn’t for the life of me tell u who Liverpool are playing this month. I’m not interested either. But that’s typical of all Liverpool supporters. Obsessing about all things Man U. Sad, really.
Says the man whose 1st comment was about Liverpool!!!
At least im honest in saying Liverpool and Utd are fighting for 4th and cant wait to see all the sad man u faces when ye hav no champs lge again
De Gea you beauty
Bad news about McCarthy , good to see McGeady’s revival continuing starting again today
Falcoa looking very eager to score . 2nd half goal from him now . Mark my words
Damn . Should have put a tenner on it
Is it on uk gold or Comedy Central?
You can watch Liverpool on the History Channel.
Blue noses for the chop
Everton the feeder club of United doing there best to give them the three points.everton useless second club of the city
As bad as UTD are at the moment, I’d settle for a point.
Falcao to score!!!!!
Stupid by shaw. Great save though from de gea
Replay shows he got the ball.
I thought he did myself. But in real time from the refs angle it looked a pen
Looking forward to watching Angel and Mata’s an old favourite of mine.
He’s here FALCAO
Hard one to call , always a difficult game
2-2
Great performance from De Gea , MOTM !
At the game here. As usual fans giving out stink about the ref. Is he having a shocker?
Couldn’t be worse timing for Everton to lose Coleman and McCarthy but they should still have enough to beat the shit that is United.
“The shit that is utd” why u hate them so much?
Because of their fans
All football fans are the same Peter, its just that they “follow” different tribes. Didn’t you realise that?
Don’t waste your time frank.
@sean. See you in a few days when you pop out from under your rock.
I think peter thinks it’s a case of “goodies” and “baddies”
Say again please. I don’t think I heard u. Ha ha
What channel anyone?
I’ll be watching it on german premier, ljsports is a great link as to what channels are showing the match .. All legitimate
Bt sport les
A result with a back four who haven’t played together. Missed Rooney energy and herrera. Look its points on the board united will be judged when squad is fully fit. 4th at the moment dont see arsenal getting anything at the bridge so its positive. 30 players used in 7 games is outrageous hopefully with international break they might get a few defenders back and be a bit more confident
Apparently there’s a lot of Deadbeats on here today so to shut them up here’s how it goes ! Goals win you matches ! Saves win you Titles !
Everton have been poor this season. Utd will get a real test against chelsea and city in the space of a week.
Look who’s in the Champions league positions. Wouldn’t have predicted that a couple of weeks ago
Think a draw is on the cards!!!!
Is it three English players I see in the combined starting line-ups ? Sign of the times, and England wonder why the international team struggles !
Offside goal to go ahead. What a surprise.
Be quiet. He was onside. No everton player even pit their hand up.
Have you not learned not to respond to the comments I make? Seriously Les. I’m taking the p*ss. Works every time.
Dylan….your bitterness is embarrassing. give it a rest.
They’re still playing poorly. Nothing fixed. Coming up against the likes of Chelsea or City and they’ll be easily beat.
Enough about liverpool, what about utd
The same goes for United Les. I tend not to bring Liverpool up on United articles unlike you do.
At the game here. As usual fans giving out stink about the ref. Is he having a shocker?*
Not really
a little too eager to blow the whistle but fine so far pen was difficult cause Shaw got the ball first but went thru naismith
Fergie time lives on
Because and you may have noitced a player having to be stretchered off in injury time
“We’re 4th – What’s the problem” says Scholes immediately afterwards. Plenty problems Paul … Outstanding goalkeeping by de Gea prevented another (possibly heavy) defeat. McNair is a prospect but Mata, Blind & Shaw all poor today.
So Howard didn’t keep the score respectable for Everton aswell then !!! Cause to most fans that’s what good keepers do , except for foolish deadbeats like yourself.
Howard didn’t make a decent save De Gea saved a pen and made two outrageous saves
Bravo u are delusional !! Howard was poor today – contributed to Utd’s win with his poor clearance in the lead up to Falcao’s goal
Very fond of ‘stirring’ get a life ! Your right Johnny he is a deadbeat .
Di Maria’s free kick for starters !
Di Maria’s free kick ?? He was so comfortable he nearly dived past it
Nothing better to do today Darren ? Ah well not to worry your back school tomorrow. Don’t forget to turn Mummy’s phone off when your finished now otherwise she’ll know you’ve been on the Score again.
What you mean man do you reckon it was a top class save for Di Maria’s free kick ?? I’m not trying to wind anyone up but bravos comment of two goalies being equal was rubbish de Gea saved united 3 times Howard should have put the ball in row Z but didn’t and it cost Everton big time !! If your only argument is to call me a child for pointing out the obvious why even bother making a comment your adding nothing to the conversationbut I would hazard a guess you rarely do
