Hello and welcome to this weekend’s biggest and best Premier League fixture as Liverpool welcome high-flying Spurs to Anfield.

We’re already underway – I’m watching with American commentary, so excuse me if I start giggling.

Let the record show that these are your teams for this afternoon’s festivities:

Liverpool: Jones, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Jose Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Downing, Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge.

Subs: Gulacsi, Skrtel, Shelvey, Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Wisdom.

Tottenham: Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Parker, Livermore, Bale, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Defoe.

Subs: Friedel, Huddlestone, Gallas, Naughton, Holtby, Caulker, Carroll.

Liverpool have started right on the front foot, Suarez only just failing to reach a return ball after a one-two with Sturridge stationed out on the right flank.

Excuse the slow-down in updates, we were getting very excited at seeing Lana Del Rey in a Liverpool scarf…. among other things.

H/T @JoeRedFM

Liverpool continue to enjoy a high-tempo start; Sturridge latching on to a clean through-ball into the box, but his touch took him well wide of Lloris.

At the other end, now. Spurs/ Gareth Bale have a free kick….

Ooomph! Bale’s knuckleball of a free-kick dips Sharply a foot in front of Jones and he has to swallow all his pride to flap it left of goal.

Despite that Bale free-kick, Liverpool continue to look the better team with 20 minutes gone.

Coutinho has continued his good form, just whistling a shot past the far post with a shot from the left.

GOAL! Liverpool 1 -0 Tottenham (Suarez ’21)

The Reds lead through a typically deft finish from the Uruguayan, he latched onto a superb through-ball from Enrique to poke past Lloris at the near (left hand) post.

Sorry for the technical delay there, folks. We’re 33 minutes in now, but you’ve not missed a thing. Liverpool are still looking the most likely side to add to that excellent Suarez opener.

Indeed, as I write, Gareth Bale leans back and pings one right into row Z of The Kop.

That’s the closest Spurs have come.

Bale back-flicking into the path of Sigurdsson who should have done better with no defender in his way as he shot narrowly wide from 18 yards.

A little bit of patented Argy Bargy there as Parker and Suarez lock legs like some sort of weird animal kingdom mating ritual.

Back in midfield, familiar scenes as Gareth Bale is laying prone on the ground. In fairness, Stevie G gave him a heavy enough clatter in the back as both rose to contest a header.

GOAL!  Liverpool 1 – 1 Tottenham (Vertonghen ’45)

A fantastic in-swinging cross from that man Gareth Bale is crying out for a touch and the defender duly dips his head in behind Dawson to claim the equaliser.

HALF TIME: Liverpool 1 – 1 Tottenham

Our esteemed presenters at Fox Soccer passed us over to the second half commentary team which includes one ‘James Beglin’

James now, is it? Well, lah dee dah.

You’ve changed, Jim.

GOAL! Liverpool 1 – 2 Tottenham (Vertonghen ’51)

It’s a second goal for the Belgian, but this one will leave many questions to be asked of the Reds defence. The ball did bounce kindly for the defender in the box, but he had time to let it bounce before he poked it towards the corner, giving Jones no chance.

And after Bale got into a full gallop it could have been three, Sigurdsson with a shot saved onto the post by Jones.

Spurs showing their top four credentials now.

GOAL! Liverpool 2 -2 Tottenham (Downing ’66)

The Kop end is rocking now thanks to a real gift from messers* Walker and Lloris. The fullback gave his keeper and awful problem with a weak, bouncing back pass and the Frenchman failed to get much contact in his clearance.

Downing must not have believed his feet, because with the ball hit straight at him, he composed himself in front of the goal and drilled a right foot shot through the covering defender’s legs.

*not a typo.

Wow, there’s that magic Downing right boot in action again. We jest a little, but the winger’s dribble is keeping Spurs on the back foot and though his right-footed cross is sliced slightly, it finds Suarez at the back post.

By that stage, the angle is too tight for the striker to hit anywhere but the side netting.

Anything Bale or Suarez can do, Sturridge insists he can do too. Yes, we’re talking about diving. Nothing doing for the ex-Bolton, Chelsea and Man City man on this occasion.

PENALTY…. GOAL: Liverpool 3 – 2 Tottenham (Gerrard ’82)

That, folks, is surely the winner… right?

Suarez is bundled over clumsily on the left edge of the area, The old skipper steps up and slams it home.

Good game, this.

Here comes Jordan Henderson, he replaces Daniel Sturridge. That oughta wrap up the points.

We’re in added time and YNWA is echoing around the stadium, three points, three goals. Liverpool are on the up.

FULL TIME: Liverpool 3 – 2 Tottenham

There you have it, Spurs remain third, just two points clear of Chelsea who have a game in hand.

The victory propels Liverpool up to sixth, they lie two points behind Arsenal, who also have a game to spare.
