As it happened: Kerry make light work of Limerick

Kerry have booked their place in the All-Ireland semi-finals, beating Limerick at Croke Park. Here is all the action as it unfolded…

14.13 - The action is underway at Headquarters, and Kerry draw first blood. Declan O’Sullivan evades the challenge of Pa Ranahan to slot a simple score over the bar.

14.22 – It’s all been Kerry, who now lead 0-05 to 0-02. O’Sullivan, his namesake Darran and Bryan Sheehan all shot over the bar – Darran O’Sullivan missing a fine goal chance in doing so. Stephen Kelly grabbed the Treaty County’s first point in their first All-Ireland semi-final but it wasn’t long before Darran O’Sullivan reasserted the Kingdom’s dominance.

14.30 – Limerick come back into it as Kerry lose their way a bit. Ian Ryan strikes the post from a difficult angle and the deficit stays at three points. But just about.

14.34 – All change as Kerry wake up and score a magnificent goal. Paul Galvin plays in Donncha Walsh, who picks out Darran O’Sullivan. The forward advances before using the side of his foot to prod past Limerick goalkeeper Brian Scanlon. Scanlon subsequently settles Limerick somewhat with a huge free, but Kerry bite back again through a point from Declan O’Sullivan. It’s 1-06 to 0-03.

14.38 – It’s half-time and Kerry have stretched their advantage by two points to 1-08 to 0-04. It’s not all good news though – Darran O’Sullivan has been injured and replaced.

14.55 – It hasn’t been a classic and Kerry – despite not being at their best – clearly have far too much attacking prowess for Limerick to handle.

15.00 – Moments into the second half, Stephen Kelly has a great chance to score a goal for Limerick but he shoots just over with his left boot. 1-08 to 0-05.

15.04 – Sheehan bags Kerry’s first point of the second but it’s immediately countered by an effort from Ger Collins. Tomás O’Sé fists over for the Kingdom in a blistering start to the second half, and the score now stands at 1-09 to 0-7.

15.08 – Make that 1-10 to 0-08. Bryan Sheehan fires Kerry further in front before Kelly defeats Kealy.

15.13 – There are 47 minutes gone at Croke Park and the Kingdom’s half-time lead is restored. Colm Cooper scores his second point of the day from a free-kick and Sheehan makes it 1-12 to 0-08.

15.17 – That should be it as Sheehan is tugged back for a free, which he converts. It could have been even better had Walsh not missed an easy chance. Kerry 1-13 Limerick 0-08.

15.19 – Another Sheehan free is followed up by a fine save by Scanlon from Declan O’Sullivan. Kerry are treating this as a ‘training game,’ according to RTE Sport.

A tweet from Ewan McKenna - ‘Fell asleep during this game. Just woke up and wishing I was back asleep. #GAA’

15.26 - Killian Young is the latest player to get his name on the scoresheet for Kerry, while Ian Ryan ends Limerick’s scoring drought. It’s now 1-16 to 0-09.

15.30 – Kerry have had eight different scorers in this match – Tomás O’Sé grabbing the latest. A point by John Riordan is scant consolation for Limerick and it’s now 1-18 to 0-10 as the match nears its conclusion.

15.34 – That’s it. Kerry have another All-Ireland semi-final to look forward to after beating Limerick. It finished 1-20 to 0-10, Kieran Donaghy grabbing the last score of the game.
