Result: Dublin 2-15 Wexford 1-14
14.07 – 8 minutes, Dublin 0-3 Wexford 0-2: Wexford defence has started well although McHugh gets Dublin on the board but it’s immediately cancelled out by a French free. Back come Dublin again, they might have goaled but Costello shoots just over the bar. And there’s the lead for Dublin, McHugh with his second.
14.15 – 16 minutes, Dublin 0-3 Wexford 1-4: Game still finding its way a little but Jack O’Connor finds his way there, good point from distance. Better to come, 21-yard free for the underdogs, Conor McDonald steps up to take it and blasts home. Should have been stopped on the line mind you, as it wasn’t the cleanest of strikes.
14.23 – 24 minutes, Dublin 1-4 Wexford 1-6: Conor McDonald is having a really good game. He won his own ball there, held off two defenders and put Wexford back in front. There’s been some poor shooting on both sides but not from him. Andrew Kenny follows it up with a free.
14.31 – Half-time, Dublin 1-8 Wexford 1-8: One of the scores of the game from one of the players of the game there, as Conor McDonald finds a couple of feet of space and spears over a point from a tight angle going away from goal. That’s followed with one from Jack O’Connor who has looked dangerous too. Meanwhile Colm Cronin finishes the scoring for the half and that’s about right. Nothing in it. Wexford have looked to surge away a couple of times but just weren’t able. We’ll find out if they can after the break, although they’ll be happy with this so far. All to play for.
14.59 – 47 minutes, Dublin 2-12 Wexford 1-11: Dublin looking to turn the screw as Cian Boland puts them in front but Andrew Kenny is having none of it. He has been dominant at six and he cuts out a chance there, his long ball results in a free and that’s easy for Tony French who continues to drift deep in open play. But Kenny can do nothing about that as a long ball in is taken advantage of by Paul Winters and he goals. A huge moment. Dublin add another point too. Suddenly that’s a healthy looking lead in a game of this nature.
15.02 – 50 minutes, Dublin 2-11 Wexford 1-11: Wexford clinging on and a needless late hit gives Tony French an easy chance to add to his tally. They need to follow that up with the next couple now as we creep into the last 10 minutes. James Cash on for Tony French for Wexford. Chris Bennett on for Sean Treacy for Dublin.
15.09 – 57 mins: Dublin 2-13 Wexford 1-13: Conor McDonald has been taken out of it in the second half but he does at least get to tap over an easy free there. Four to go and they know there’s only one way back into this. Time to go for goal. Sean Kenny has a shot from 21 and it’s deflected inches wide. And a scramble from the 65 and it’s cleared off the line.
15.15 – Full-time, Dublin 2-15 Wexford 1-14: Wexford don’t get so much as a chance though as a heavy foul sees Conor McHugh stay down as the seconds tick away and Winters taps over the free. Boland completes the scoring with a breakaway point. Not a great game but Dublin just about deserved it. Their shooting was poor but they still created enough to get by and that second goal was always going to be a massive blow for Wexford in a game that close.
