RESULT: Cork 1-19 Waterford 0-19

13.57 – Westmeath’s Barry Kelly is the man in the middle for today’s game. There’s a place in the All-Ireland semi-final against Galway at stake on August 12th in Croke Park in today’s first game. It promises to be a huge afternoon of hurling action and we’re just a few minutes away from throw-in with both teams finishing off their warm-ups.

14.19Cork 1-5 Waterford 0-3: 20 mins – Waterford needed that as Maurice Shanahan bangs over a free. They are struggling in attack with only one point from play registered so far and Cork are more alert at midfield. The Waterford rearguard is looking vulnerable as well in the early stages.

15.00Cork 1-10 Waterford 0-13: 43 mins – We’re level in Thurles with Shanahan smashing over a close-range free after Molumphy was fouled.  Change for Waterford with Eoin McGrath in for Thomas Ryan.

15.34 – Plenty drama at the finish with Cork just holding on for a first All-Ireland semi-final place since 2010. It was a great comeback win for Cork as they looked in huge trouble during the second-half. Waterford were left to rue Cork’s powerful charge in the closing ten minutes.

Here are the scorers from today’s game.

CORK: Patrick Horgan 0-7 (0-4f), Jamie Coughlan 1-1, Cian McCarthy 0-3, Patrick Cronin, Paudie O’Sullivan, Cathal Naughton 0-2 each, Sean Óg Ó hAilpín, Luke O’Farrell 0-1 each.
WATERFORD: Maurice Shanahan 0-9 (0-6f, 0-1 ’65), Pauric Mahony 0-3, John Mullane, Shane Walsh 0-2 each, Seamus Prendergast, Tony Browne (0-1f), Stephen Molumphy 0-1 each.

That’s all from the first quarter-final today, we’ll be starting a live blog shortly of the clash between Kilkenny and Limerick.
