It’s another League of Ireland Friday night.
You may need to refresh to see videos and images.
Bray Wanderers 0-0 Sligo Rovers
- Bohemians 1-1 Cork City
- Derry City 1-2 UCD
- Dundalk 0-1 Shelbourne
18.45 – Another week, another round of Airtricity League games. Tonight, eight Premier Division teams are in action and we’ll be focussing our attention on the Carlisle Grounds, where champions elect Sligo look to extend their lead at the top.
With just six league fixtures remaining, the Bit O’Red will seal a first title since 1977 barring a catastrophic meltdown. And deservedly so, as they have been the best team in the country during Ian Baraclough’s maiden campaign in Ireland.
Kick-off in Wicklow is 7.05pm.
18.47 – Teams are in:
Bray Wanderers: Quigley, S.O’Connor, Massey, D O’Connor, Mitchell, Houston, Zambra, Doyle, Mulroy, Byrne, Waters. Subs: Kane, Webster, Early, Marshall, Hanlon, Moffatt, Geogiev.
Sligo Rovers: Rogers, Conneely, Gaynor, Henderson, McGuinness, Lynch, Ventre, Cawley, Ndo, Cretaro, Quigley. Subs: Brush, Owens, Dykes, Dillon, Connolly, Millien, Buchanan.
18.52 – Mark Quigely begins up front alongside Rafael Cretaro for the away side tonight. The 26-year-old striker picked up Aitricity/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Player of the Month for August earlier this week after scoring four times during the month in question.
Bray are a team that sometimes struggle, but I know from playing against them through the years that they will always give you a tough game,” Quigley said on tonight’s game.
18.55 – Sligo’s Haitain international Pascal Millien has to settle for a place on the bench despite being superb in recent weeks. Have you seen his latest rap video yet?

19.07 – Teams are out, coin’s been flipped and once the sides switch ends, we’ll be getting underway here.
19.13 – Since Bray tipped off, it’s been a fairly low key opening five minutes of football.
Kieran Marty Waters did get some joy down the left side and crossed but Ross Gaynor was on hand to head clear. The Seagull’s leading scorer Jason Byrne was almost clear moments ago but he was dispossessed before finding a yard to shoot.
19.16 – Sligo attempting to keep hold of possession and play through the middle but, as expected, their opponents are working hard to close down the man with the ball at all times.
19.19 – There’s a stoppage in play and Marty Walters is holding his face. The Bray winger pushed the ball beyond Joseph Ndo but the experienced former Cameroon international got his body in front, however, and catches him in the face.
19.21 – We’ve just had two really good chances at either end. First, Quigley latches onto a long ball and outmuscles Adam Mitchell before poking beyond goalkeeper Darren Quigley. It’s rolls just wide.
When Byrne then picks up the ball, he attempts an early lob but is slightly too high with his effort.
19.25 – Big penalty shout for Sligo. They break through Quigley and, with Danny Ventre free inside, the striker opts instead to take on Dan O’Connor with a neat flick before going down. On first viewing, it looks a foul but replays show that he actually jumps into the defender expecting the challenge so good decision by referee Anthony Buttimer in my opinion.
19.28 – Quigley finds Cretaro with a smashing pass but he can’t get sufficient contact with his volley.
Meanwhile, Lee Lynch has picked up the first yellow card of the night for kicking the ball away.
19.30 – More claims for a Sligo spot-kick after Cretaro is brought to the ground inside the area. Yet again, they’re waved away but this time it looks the wrong decision.
The signs are ominous for Bray at the moment.
They (Sligo) have started off very well. They’re the best team in the country but it’s early days yet. We’ve shown them too much respect but hopefully we can get back in the game and get hold of the ball. We’re doing well and I’m happy enough,” Pat Devlin tells RTE Sport.
19.40 – When Quigley is in this type of form, there aren’t many better players in the league. The Dubliner’s latest effort, an excellent chip from 20 yards, brings the best out of his namesake Darren, who back-pedals to tip over.
19.43 – Ventre tries to turn on the edge of his box and gifts Byrne the chance to shoot first time. Gary Rodgers saves excellently. It’s been an enjoyable 35 minutes so far.
19.45 – Next Bray chance sees Waters cross for Byrne, but his header is well over.
19.49 – The four 7.45pm kick-offs are up and running but, as of yet, there are no goals to report. Four minutes to half-time here.
19.52 – Rodgers pulls off a fine save from John Mulroy’s deflected strike.
19.54 – Half-time: Bray Wanderers 0-0 Sligo Rovers
20.06 – GOAL! Bohemians 0-1 Cork City (Vinny Sullivan)
20.10 – Second half, here we go.
20.17 – Brilliant move for Bray. Shane O’Connor heads to Byrne, who flicks back to his team-mate. O’Connor blasts a strike towards goal first time but it whistles just past the far post.
20.21 – Doyle tries his luck from distance and isn’t far away after Rodgers drops a corner kick. Sligo have yet to get going since the break and could soon find themselves behind if they don’t wake up… and fast.
20.27 – Waters is almost in but Rodgers leaves his line early to snuff out the danger. The Bit O’Red looking a bit shaky at the back in the past few minutes.
20.28 – GOAL! Dundalk 0-1 Shelbourne (Paddy Kavanagh)
20.29 – GOAL! Derry City 0-1 UCD (Barry McCabe)
20.36 – First decent Sligo chance of the second half and it’s no surprise that Quigley is causing the danger. He meets a cross from the left but can’t direct it goalward.
20.38 – Pascal Millien makes his entrance as the game’s first substitute and the Haitian winger is immediately involved – fizzing a ball across the goal after a run out wide. He’s on for Ventre, for those who are wondering.
20.41 – Cretaro, who is now operating on the left, kills a pass with his chest, flicks over Danny O’Connor and shoots on the volley. It’s central though and Quigley isn’t troubled.
20.48 – Jeff Henderson, making his league debut, is receiving treatmenet after being caught on the ankle. Hobbles off the pitch and hopefully he can continue. Eight minutes of normal time remain.
20.49 – Cretaro and Quigley play in David Cawley with some superb first-touch play but the midfielder’s shot is smothered by Darren Quigley.
Bray make their first change – it’s Adam Hanlon on for John Mulroy.
20.51 – Henderson hasn’t shaken that injury off and has been replaced by fellow recent signing Ryan Connelly, who will play in the middle after some positional switches.
20.55 – Mitchell swings a leg at Gaynor’s cross and breaths a sigh of relief as it is sliced over his own crossbar for a corner. Could easily have found the back of the net.
20.56 – Just three minutes of added time to play now.
20.58 – GOAL! Derry City 0-2 UCD (David McMillan)
20.59 – GOAL! Bohemians 1-1 Cork City (Evan McMillan)
21.00 – Full-time: Bray Wanderers 0-0 Sligo Rovers
Sligo break in search of one final attack but Buttimer cuts it short by blowing the final whistle.
21.02 – GOAL! Derry City 1-2 UCD (Kevin Deery)
21.05 – You’d have backed a Sligo win after their first half performance but credit to Bray, who dug in after the break to frustrate their opponents. The Bit O’Red will feel aggrieved at not being awarded a penalty but the point puts seven between themselves and Drogheda with just five matches left to play.
21.43 – Full-times:
- Bohemians 1-1 Cork City
- Derry City 1-2 UCD
- Dundalk 0-1 Shelbourne
