In my opinion Heaslip hasn’t a chance with the non Leinster fans.

They sneer at his dress sense, his lifestyle, his restaurant interest, his headphones etc etc etc

It’s sad really. Anyone who knows anything about rugby sees how his game has developed from the free running no 8 who always has a clean jersey, to the new rounded top level 8. He’s been as usual excellent for Leinster this season, and barring the France match he’s done fine for Ireland.

Munster fans hatred of him is bizarre really, he’s the captain of Ireland, the last thing he needed was the abuse he got before he even started his first game as captain.

Heaslip “might ” make the lions but it certainly won’t be on a Test side. His rugby for the last 2 years or so is club standard and as a captain – I wont even comment !

We’ll have to disagree, I’d say a player who achieved triple European Cup winner medals in 4 years is to be considered above what would be defined ‘club standard’, especially in a role as important as No 8

I think we can all agree heaslip played “fine” but it wasn’t his best and was not a captain’s performance
