Former Munster coach Tony McGahan praises fast and furious Lions

The Aussie, now coaching coordinator with the Wallabies, hopes Queensland Reds can front up to the tourists in Brissbane.

TONY MCGAHAN IS better placed than most in assessing the threat posed by the British and Irish Lions to Australia this summer.

Through various roles, backs and defence coach and director of coaching, McGahan spent seven seasons at Munster and was involved with the Heineken Cup-winning sides of 2006 and 2008. In 2011, as head coach, he led the province to the Magners League title.

Now ensconced with the Australia Rugby Union as coaching coordinator, the Queenslander is one of the many locals in Brisbane anticipating Saturday’s game between the Lions and Reds. He praised the Lions exceptional start to the 2013 Tour, which includes two 50-plus points wins, and the tourist’s ‘fast, vibrant brand of rugby’.

With Paul O’Connell and Conor Murray on the bench, McGahan cane provide a vital insight to Reds’ coach Ewen McKenzie on two players he formerly coached.
