They’re on the way, Australia.

And as they go, the best wishes of sport’s best from this part of the world, are with them. Check out this good luck video featuring mesages from the likes of our own Rory McIlroy and Pádraig Harrington. And even Tim Henman.

What is it with these British and Irish type questions every four years players from the home nations those that compete for the triple crown put there club and country aside and form a team for a few weeks and go on tour and represent Ireland Scotland England and Wales it makes no difference over the next few weeks who scores the trys what the nationality of the player is those if us who follow rugby will support players that are opposition for the next three years I can’t think of any team sport where there is such a mix of players who gel and try to do there best for the four home countries

Well there’s your problem right there: “Home countries”- what do you mean by that exactly?

Can I just say I played rugby for years and love the game, to play for the Lions is a massive honour and I hope all the lads give it socks out there and our lads drive it on, but we are the Irish and British Lions, we are not all the same “land”.

The irfu, rfu, wru and sfu are collectively known as the home nations so therefore it’s not unionist talk and Vincent I’m sure there is an article somewhere about your god Enda go troll there, I don’t care if its Irish and British lions or British and Irish lions just as long as they win the series that’s all that matters irrespective of the team name

Now, now David. It’s not my fault you’re a West Brit. Yes. Those federations are known as “home nations”. By the British.

Vincent, in many sports a tournament is held each year between teams representing the nations in these 2 islands, they are known as the home internationals.
Thats better than calling them the British championship, which in effect, is what they are.
The Lions were known as the British lions for many years but now are known and referred to officially as the British and Irish lions.
    Much progress has been made.

Again, Gerry- called the “Home Internationals” by our neighbours. “Home” suggests a single, united entity. Anyway, I’ve no problem with Irish people getting behind the Lions. I just think its a peculiarity in sporting terms and it doesn’t work for me. To each their own.

Having had the pleasure and honour of watching the British and Irish Lions train pitch-side in Carton House last week and having met them I will definitely be cheering them on – they were a lovely group of guys – with a couple (mainly the Welsh) jokingly telling me to change my top (I had an Irish jersey on). It would appear the only people making the fuss about British/Irish are the people commenting on here! Why can’t we just unite and all shout them on??
