Shelbourne on the brink after defeat in Limerick

Rory Gaffney scored a first-half winner for the home side.

Limerick City 1

Shelbourne 0

SHELBOURNE ARE FACING relegation from the Airtricity League Premier Division after defeat in Limerick tonight.

Rory Gaffney struck a first-half goal for the home side which proved enough to deny the Dublin outfit at Thomond Park.

The result means UCD are safe for another season while second-from-bottom Bray Wanderers need just a single point to avoid automatic relegation.

Very unlucky shels. As a blue fan those morons who taunted shels on the pitch after the game have nothing to do with football

I remember their fans about ten years ago used to have a flag with

    $H€LBOURN€

emblazoned across it during the height of the Ollie Byrne madness.

Hard to feel any sympathy for them to be honest.

Zero sympathy for them but the young mugs taunting their fans at the end was ridiculous, we are hardly an established premier team ourselves, thankfully it was a very small and young minority who got on the pitch, being a decent first season back for us, here’s hoping for many more years at the top division!

They deserve to go down for their arrogance and reckless spending in the last decade. Should have been stripped of numerous titles. No sympathy whatsoever. The person in charge of the club back then was a complete bully and turned a lot of people against Shels. Myself included.

We were punished for our foolishness Dweller. We had our last league title taken and were relegated for our reckless spending. It took us 5 years to get back on track and out of the 1st division on that occasion. You obviously havent had to watch your team play at that level, its tough. With that and your Ollie bashin would make me believe your a Pats fan. Yes we may have stolen a league title through your administrative errors but this year Pats knocked us out of the LSC playing an illegible and what did we do about it? Nothing. We are not the same club! And if you are a Pats fan, You’re a terrible winner.

Cheers Martin. Were not far of needing a miracle now. Good luck for last 2 gamess. Yis did well to get out of trouble when it mattered. 3-0 at Tolka was massive.

Limerick FC have not been Limerick City since the 70s. Well done anyway lads, 4 wins & 2 draws from the last 6 games. 3 wins on the bounce & 3 consecutive clean sheets. If this form had come 6 weeks earlier they’d be in a Europa League spot now.

Good enough for Shels. Offer nothing to the league, poor oul atmosphere in Tolka and their fans still have that chip on their shoulder about being relegated when they got to keep their league. Shels -v- the rest of Ireland
