Na Piarsaigh seal semi-final spot with win over Granagh-Ballingarry

The winners had to come from behind as they trailed by 1-9 to 0-9 at half-time.

REIGNING AIB MUNSTER senior club hurling champions Na Piarsaigh booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Limerick county championship tonight.

Na Piarsaigh, title winners in Limerick and Munster in 2011 and 2013, enjoyed a 2-20 to 2-18 victory over Granagh-Ballingarry.

The winners had to come from behind as they trailed by 1-9 to 0-9 at half-time and by 2-10 to 0-11 early in the second-half. However goals from Limerick senior Kevin Downes and Limerick U21 David Dempsey helped propel Na Piarsaigh to an eventual two-point win in a high-scoring encounter.

Na Piarsaigh are joined at the semi-final stage by Doon as they enjoyed a comprehensive 4-18 to 1-12 win over Knockainey. Doon have never won the Limerick senior hurling title and were last in the final in 2000 but they are now just a game away from the decider.

Na Piarsaigh’s win has ensured Kilmallock have reached the quarter-final stage as well. Ahane are likely to join them after a last gasp point by Limerick minor Tom Morrissey enabled them to defeat Ahane by 1-16 to 1-15. Patrickswell and South Liberties boosted their chances with victories tonight as well.
