LIMERICK WILL FIGHT on with their Hawk-Eye appeal after their latest challenge was thrown out last night.
The county will now take their case to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) as they attempt to have their controversial defeat in the All-Ireland minor hurling semi-final overturned.
Limerick challenged the result after Hawk-Eye, the GAAโs expensive score detection technology, incorrectly ruled out a point in the opening minute of their defeat against Galway. The game finished in a draw before Galway went on to win in extra-time and book their place in the final on 8 September.
The appeal was initially struck out by the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) last week who said that, under Rule 7.10 (n), they were precluded from considering an objection โsubmitted on grounds that a referee had incorrectly allowed or failed to allow a score.โ
The Central Hearings Committee (CHC) last night upheld that decision, and with time running out, a spokesperson for the county board told TheScore.ie that they will now lodge an application to the DRA.
Take it al the way limerick, stand up for every teenager and adult in the country. Hawkeye was brought in to stop mistakes and it cost limerick teens a place in the All Ireland final.
If Limerick lets this go then the GAA will continue to walk all over Counties and clubs.
Or just move on and except thatโs its one of those things :-)
itโs not one of those things, the technology cost limerick a place in the final, this is scandalous.
if limerick let this go then the gaa will walk over everyone.
But will they tomโฆ
Technology did not cost Limerick the match. It cost them a point but nobody knows how the game would have been effected if the point was allowed. Give it up lads. It canโt be replayed. There is nothing in the rules to allow a replay. If a replay was ever going to be awarded it would have been rewarded to Louth in 2010
โTechnology did not cost Limerick the matchโ
aah, yes it did.
Absolutely Niall, if it had been last minute I could understand it, but a point in the opening minute means f. all.
If they were the better team Galway wouldnโt have won in extra-time or even got them as far as extra time!
20wides for limerick had nothing to do with the lossโฆ
How can a computer generated message be taken as gospel? The replay on screen is all that is needed to know it was a valid score.
Not allowing a replay or appeal is a classic case of the system is more important than the people it serves
Get over it
Agreed. The ref heard about the error at half time and in time honoured GAA tradition made a draw of it at the end. Limerick had their replay in extra time and made a hash of it. How many chances do they want.
To say the ref made a draw out of it is saying he fixed the match-surely never in Gaa!!! A draw at the end means Limk won the match,if you get my drift. At this stage Limk forget about it. Your approach to the two appeal boards has been lukewarm so far.
Can we keep the personal insults out of the comments please?
Will do Nelly!
Good man Jimbo โ and for future reference, I prefer Nidler if weโre going to insist on using nicknames.
Oh, Jimbo now is it.!
I could have stayed at home and been insulted..
Jesus sore losers. Move on and come back better next year
they didnโt โloseโ in normal time, in fact, they won. Galway should have manned up and offered a replay. All Galway have taught their teenagers is that itโs ok to win by any means possible.
Someone has to put a stop to this bullshit.
You can also look at it as a draw,, if the point was allowed the ref wouldnโt off given limerick the free at the end.. My opinion is the free at the end was given to limerick to make up for the โMissโ to even it up and let them at it for another 20mins I do feel sorry for the young lads its a disappointment but they ended up loosing by 3points,, if they want to appeal they have a right but thatโs just my argument on the matter
Those minors wonโt be able to play next year. Iโm not saying Limerick would have won if that score had stood. Galway being man enough to offer a replay would sort things.
limerick were denied two points, not one, two. Limerick would have won by two points in normal time.
Are you saying that every single decision that should have gone Galwayโs way during the game did? Itโs a slippery roadโฆ
@tom daly why should Galway give them a replay they havenโt done anything wrong. The way youโre going on youโd swear it was some sort of conspiracy between Galway and GAA HQ to stop limerick reaching the final. Limerick had a full game plus extra time to make up for it and didnโt. Shit happens get on with it
So now itโs Galwayโs fault. Grow up Tom Daly Clarke. You are like an infant again today.
Totally agree with you john paul
Itโs a minor team, they canโt come back next year! 3 or 4 might play senior eventually but probably still not next year!
Any word if Galway will contest that soft free Limerick got at the end of second half to level the match and bring it to extra time?
Give it up for gods sake itโs over and done with limerick r not the first team it happened to and they wonโt be the last
itโs the first time it happened with hawkeye. If limerick let this go then the gaa may as well throw hawkeye in the bin.
Itโs simple really. The referee is not obliged to take the decision of hawkeye as gospel, he has the final say. He didnโt give the point. The rules say the refereeโs correct or incorrect awarding of a score cannot be overturned. How many more games has this happened in? Itโs part of the game, accept it or donโt play/follow it.
The situation with hawkeye was so fcuked up that the ref didnโt know that he had the final say.
Totally agree with you sinead how many times has a referee made a mistake and the games were never replayed ,just get over it and try to win next year ,they are acting like children
If this was the last puck of the game I might understand but Limerick had enough time to come back(including extra time)
Did Limerick get any soft frees during the game at all? There was one I can remember and it was converted.
I think they should just let it go. Mistakes happpen in every game and in every sport.
Mayo got a very soft penalty the last day that was a 14 yard free but I doubt Tyrone will appeal.
Regardless of Referees decisions I think the best team always win.
Limerick are correct in taking this as far as they can.
As it stands, Galway were awarded a place in the final in error.
A replay would put an end to this ridiculous sideshow once and for all.
Not at all. Whoโs to say that if Limerick had been awarded the point that Galway wouldnโt have gone up the other end and scored a goal etc.
If it had been in the final minutes fair enough, but Limerick had nearly 60 minutes to win the game and couldnโt.
Whose to say that had limerick got the point they would have won the game??! The referee could have overruled Hawkeye he didnt limerick had a fair crack at it in extra time they still lostโฆI doubt the decision was still playing on their mind at that stage. Bad calls happen in every game its just unfortunate that it happened when the technology supposed to reduce error didnt work
Jesus lads get over it and move on.
The ref stopped play about 30 seconds afterwards. Therefore the game would have taken a different direction regardless. So weโll never know
Leave them fight away. Less lime light on the Waterford Minors to train away.
Limerick are totally entitiled to taking this matter forwardโฆit is clear that Limerick were denied a genuine score (and denied by a faulty piece of equipement)โฆI hope that Limerick fights this until justice it achieved. Both the GAA and Hawkeye has accepted that this was an error. a rematch is the very least that should be given.
A precedent will be set if a replay is awarded here. Most teams will look at it as an opportunity to contest every late free or hard luck story in a game if they feel itโll be in their interest for a second chance. No doubt itโs hard on the limerick fellas but the rest of the game and extra time were played out and the best team came through on the day Iโm afraid
Paddy ,If the GAA intends to continue with errors like this then there should be a precedent should be set..Why should Limerick minors or any other team or county have to suffer because of an error by a piece of equipement? All I want is fair playโฆ
Con teams have been on receiving end of errors for years, not just in gaa but in all sport. 2 years ago limerick themselves knocked Wexford out of the football with a point that was at least half a yard wide in the last minute which was later proven by rte cameras to be wide. My worry is that it gives every team that feels hard done by in a game from here on a license to challenge any result with a controversial decision and if a replay gets forced then thereโll always be a case to cite
The Limerick management arenโt new to whingingโฆ.for the Munster final they wanted a different venue because Waterford โowed them a gameโ, they tried to move it forward 24hrsโฆ..maybe they should concentrate and the game itself and see if the results improve!
As this is the first major error by Hawkeye and the GAA..and everybody could see that it was a wrong decision then the only fair and reasonable way to deal with it is a rematch. If Wexford or indeed any county feels that a decision is wrong they should appealโฆThese are minors and should not be treated so unfairlyโฆthey are hopefully the future of the game so it is only right thay they should be treated fairly.
James, A request for a change of venue or a change of time is not whinging..Wanting fair play is not whinging eitherโฆIf Waterford or any other county was in the same position as Limerick is in nowโฆI am sure they would do the same.
Of course it is, itโs a bad example to young hurlers. They should be happy to go out and play in a neutral venue for an occasion such as a Munster final. Instead they went nit-picking on what might supposedly give them an edge.
As for the hawkeye incident, in my opinion it has nothing to do with fair play and everything to do with not knowing how to lose. Iโm neither from Limerick nor Galway, but Iโve played enough GAA to know that a point in the first minute is never the winning or losing of a gameโฆ20 wides on the other hand is!
โฆโThose young hurlersโ did not โnitpickโ anything they went and played and won the Munster Final Replay at a nuetral venueโฆLimerick were actually denied two points on the day..โthose young players are entitled to fair play. The GAA and Hawkeye accepted the errorโฆunlike you I am not trying to air other issues other than this appeal. These are possible future senior players, the GAA are obliged to be fair to them, sn error was made lets correct it and replay the match .
In fact my comment was at the Limerick management who arenโt letting the issue go. The lads who played the game and hit the wides know themselves where the game went wrongโฆ.and it wasnโt in the first minute!
The point against Wexford wasnโt proved to be wide, it was just inconclusive
Cut it out now limerick, I just dropped my galway jersey into the dry cleaners and bought my bus eireann ticket and am looking forward to the day out in the big smoke!!
The galway people are busy red thumbing!
Iโm embarrassed for Limerick at this stage. One of the many reasons for playing sport is to build character, to learn to deal with hard knocks.
At the start of extra time the sides were level, Limerick took the lead in the 2nd half of extra time but Galway ran out 3 point winners. Game over.Move on.
Not a professional sport. Glaringly obvious now, it would seem.
Hawk eye says in or hawk eye says out, refs decision is final.
Hawkeye is an aid to the ref.
Going forward refs may place less trust in technology and be slow to call for assistance.
The game is over, the result is in.
Move on
Are you kinda saying that the ref was both blind and illerate ?
Match should have been abandoned following conflicting Hawkeye decision because result was always going to be in doubt from that point on โฆgame will have to be replayed.
youโre having a laughโฆ..right?
I doubt the ship has sailed! The GAA have failed here. No common sense whatsoever! Limpdicks! Pardon the French, but ffs. Theyโre a joke
Why did the referee even go to Hawkeye in the 1st place? The keeper knew it was a point and the umpires did too, so no doubt there. Thatโs what Iโd like to know.
Itโs getting embarrassing at this stage for Limerick..They were not good enough on the day and it would be more embarrassing if they succeeded on this and replayed the game and were pucked into oblivion by Galway..Give up and move on before it comes back and bites you in the ass.
Limerick County Board are embarrassing us. Give us a fcuking rest lads! Galway won fair & square.
I think itโs time to throw in the towel on this one. Itโs not meant to be. Bow out with a bit of grace!
I wonder if it was Kilkenny!!!
Just like an innocent person (NOTE: different to Meath v Louth and Thierry Henry) does not volunteer to go to prison until a Judge sends him to one, neither should Galway volunteer for a replay. Itโs not sporting, itโs madness. Risking injuries so close to the final. Nothing wrong with Limerick looking for a replay but it is a decision for Croke Park, not Galway, not Limerick.
BTW I hope the GAA have a breach of contract clause in their Hawkeye deal. It seems a donkey was left in Dublin who didnโt know the difference between a football and sliothar while the thoroughbreds were sent over to deal with the Premiership that weekend.
