LIMERICK WERE 38 points too good for IT Tralee at Rathkeale in the preliminary round of the Waterford Crystal Cup.
The Munster champions beat the students 10-17 to 0-9 at Mick Neville Park to comfortably advance.
Tralee held on for 10 minutes before the deluge of goals arrived. By the time the whistle for half-time was blown, the Treaty County had raised the green flag five times, with Graeme Mulcahy pouching two. The pain continued after the break as five more goals were dispatched into the Tralee net.
The most impressive image on a night when Donal O’Grady’s men effectively shook off the cobwebs was this snap of the press box at Mick Neville Park:

Mayo survived the late scare of an NUI Galway goal and the county’s first ever black card to win 0-12 to 1-6 in their FBD League Section A encounter.
Darren Coen proved Mayo’s most frequent scorer as he combined frees and points from play for a five-point haul. NUI Galway led 0-2 to 0-1 in the early stages but James Horan’s men gradually got to grips with the game, and their opponents, and went in 0-6 to 0-4 up at half-time.

Mayo goalkeeper Rob Hennelly was one of the points scorers for Mayo with a couple of 45′s and Coen did enough to keep NUI at arm’s length. A tricky finish ensued after Sean Moran netted for NUIG and Sean Kelly got Mayo’s first ever black card. A late Mickey Conroy point settled nerves for the home side at MacHale Park.
