FIONN CARR IS Leinster’s biggest injury concern ahead of their RaboDirect Pro12 meeting with Connacht on New Year’s Day.
The winger was on the scoresheet on St Stephen’s Day as Joe Schmidt’s side ran out comfortable winners in a 42-12 victory over Ulster but had to be replaced with an ankle injury in the second half.
With his ankle in a brace, he faces a race for fitness to be available for Sunday’s game, where he would come up against his old team-mates at the Sportsground.
Connacht’s highest ever try scorer, the 26-year-old only left the province in May and will join Jamie Hagan, Sean Cronin and Damien Browne in returning to their old stomping ground if he manages to recover.
Long term injuries Mat Berquist and Dominic Ryan remain sidelined but are scheduled to make comebacks some time in January.
Eric Elwood’s Connacht led Leinster 20-8 at half-time when the sides met in the RDS back in October but eventually went down 30-20.
They were beaten for the sixth consecutive time in the competition by Munster on Monday and have failed to win a game in the RaboDirect Pro12 since September.
