GALWAY ARE INTO a Leinster semi-final against Offaly after they beat Westmeath 5-19 to 4-12 in Mullingar.
Anthony Cunningham will be pleased that his team managed five goals, particularly after Joe Canning was a late withdrawal for Conor Cooney, but the Lake County kept fighting until the end.
In truth, Galway eased off in the second half after building up a 12-point lead. James Regan got the first goal as the Tribe raced into a 1-12 to 0-04 half-time lead.
It was goal city after the break though. David Burke struck the net twice for Galway and Cyril Donnellan followed up a hat-trick from last year’s fixture with another here, before Andy Smith got their final major.
The impressive Niall O’Brien got a couple of three-pointers for Westmeath before Brendan Murtagh rounded up the green-flag festival.
