Wins for Moorefield and Summerhill in Leinster SFC quarter-finals

The Meath and Kildare champions won through today.

Moorefield (Kildare) 2-13
St Martin’s (Wexford) 0-4

Kildare champions Moorefield enjoyed a rewarding trip to the south-east today as they breezed past Wexford’s St Martin’s in their AIB Leinster SFC quarter-final.

Moorefield booked a semi-final spot against either Portlaoise or Longford Slashers after having 15 points to spare over St Martin’s, who were making their provincial senior football bow.

At the break in Wexford Park, Moorefield were 1-5 to 0-3 to the good with Patrick Murray raising the green flag before half-time to allow them some breathing space.

Moorefield dominated the second-half and were 2-8 to 0-4 to the good by the third-quarter mark after David Whyte notched their second goal of the game.

They hit five points without reply in the closing quarter and the 2006 Leinster champions will now feature in the last four of this year’s championship on November 24th.

Summerhill (Meath) 2-13
Newtown Blues (Louth) 1-13

Summerhill came away with the spoils from Drogheda this afternoon in their quarter-final tie with Newtown Blues.

It was the Louth champions who got off to a perfect start when Brian Kermode found the net in the early stages to help them lead by 1-1 to 0-1.

Summerhill kept their nerve and were ahead by 1-3 to 1-2 in the 16th minute thanks to a goal from Adrian Kenny.

Newtown Blues responded with Keith Lynch amongst their point-scorers as they lead by 1-7 to 1-4 at the interval.

But Summerhill exploded from the blocks at the start of the second-half and hit 1-5 without reply in the ten minute period after half-time with Paul Rispin shooting home their second goal.

Newtown Blues kept battling until the finish but Summerhill were ably to rely on the cushion from that Rispin goal to ultimately claim a three-point victory.
