LEINSTER SECURED THE IRFU Women’s Interprovincial title over the weekend, with a comprehensive 21-6 win over previous holders Munster in poor weather conditions at Thomond Park.

The wind and rain made handling a difficult task, but the visitors still managed to run in three converted tries, making their victory a deserved one. Ailis Egan, Sophie Spence and Nora Stapleton all crossed the whitewash for Leinster, with Stapleton adding the extras on each occasion.

Munster could only manage two penalties through Ger Rea in response, although Gary Walsh’s side did improve with the introduction of international star Niamh Briggs in the second half. Overall, it was Rob Forbes’ Leinster who were the better team, however, with the likes of Sharon Lynch, Fiona Coghlan and Jenny Murphy among the standouts.

A huge season of women’s rugby awaits in Ireland following another excellent interprovincial tournament, with a Grand Slam defence and the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup in France to look forward to.
