US TV reports said that McIlroy had mistaken US eastern seaboard time for Chicago time which is one hour later.
With just the singles matches remaining, the United States lead 10-6 at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois, but a spectacular finish last night has given Team Europe hope.
Other key matchups include, Keegan Bradley against Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson taking on Justin Rose, Jim Furyk against Sergio Garcia.
USA lead the Europeans 10-6 going into the competition’s final day.

Golf doesn’t get better than this. We went stroke-bystrokefor the first day of foursomes and fourballs as the 2012 Ryder Cup tees off at Medinah Country Club, Illinois.
It was the first time that had happened in the opening session of the Ryder Cup since 1997 at Valderrama in Spain.
The US duo got the first points on the board with a 4 and 3 victory over Europeans Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia.
With Rory and G-Mac leading the charge in Friday’s foursomes, Europe can put America on the back foot immediately.
