Ladies football round-up: Cork comfortably earn semi-final berth

Kerry, meanwhile, rounded off their group campaign with a 3-12 to 3-6 victory against already-relegated Donegal.

EAMONN RYAN’S CORK cruised into the semi-finals of the Tesco Homegrown Ladies National Football League on Sunday with a comprehensive 4-20 to 2-8 victory over Tyrone away from home.

Cork’s long trip to Tattyreagh saw the League and TG4 All-Ireland champions claim an 18-point victory against the Red Hands.

Orla Finn scored Cork’s first-half goal and the Rebelettes went on to lead by 1-14 to 1-3 at half-time, with Cathy Donnelly netting Tyrone’s goal.

Cork, who made wholesale changes at half-time, added further goals in the second half, with Aine O’Sullivan, Emma Farmer and Caoimhe Creedon on target.

Donnelly bagged her second goal of the day but Tyrone were simply outclassed as the Leesiders set up a semi-final meeting with Kerry.

The Kingdom, meanwhile, rounded off their group campaign with a 3-12 to 3-6 victory against already-relegated Donegal.

Patrice Dennehy, Louise Galvin and Sarah Jane Joy netted for Kerry, who led by 1-8 to 1-1 at half-time, as Aisleen Cunningham scored a hat-trick of goals for Donegal.

Elsewhere, Mayo inflicted just a second defeat of the season on Monaghan, but a 0-12 to 0-9 victory for the Westerners in Ballina wasn’t enough to claim a top-four finish.

Nine-time All-Star Cora Staunton bagged seven points in total for Mayo, who led by 0-7 to 0-1 at half-time.

Monaghan’s leading scorer was Laura Boylan, with four points, despite this defeat, the Farney County will play Dublin in the other Division 1 semi-final.

Dublin finished their group campaign with a fifth victory from seven outings as the Sky Blues beat struggling Laois by 2-13 to 2-6.

Dublin led by 2-2 to 1-4 at half-time, before going on to complete a seven-point victory at Naomh Mearnóg.

Sinead Aherne and Lyndsey Davey netted for Dublin before half-time, with Noirin Kirwan (penalty) and Martha Kirwan on target with Laois goals.

In Division 2, Galway, Westmeath, Down and Meath have claimed the top four places, with Fermanagh relegated.
