TYRONE’S KRIS MEEKE remains on course for a podium finish after day two of the Monte Carlo Rally.
Meeke and co-driver Paul Nagle (Citroen DS3) are in third place overnight, 1:38 behind reigning WRC champion Sebsatien Ogier who dominated racing on Friday.
Volkswagen’s Ogier won three stages and was second on the other two, moving up from fourth to take control of the race.
In second place Bryan Bouffier’s hopes of reeling in his French rival were dealt a blow when he lost more than 30 seconds on the final stage, leaving him 51 seconds adrift in his M-Sport Ford.
But for Meeke, a podium finish is very much within reach. He takes a 1:10 advantage over team-mate Mads Osberg into tomorrow’s final four stages with the chasing pack, led by Jari-Matti Latvala, more than three minutes further back.
There was good news too for Dublin’s Robert Barrable in the WRC2 category.
The 26-year-old, who is making his debut in Monte Carlo this week, moved up to second place after Armin Kremer crashed out on the day’s penultimate stage.
