Kildare's Seanie Johnston could miss his Cavan return

One of the most eagerly anticipated face-offs of the year may not happen, as the controversial forward nurses a shoulder injury.

SEANIE JOHNSTON COULD miss his Championship debut for Kildare against former side Cavan next weekend.

The forward sustained a shoulder injury in training for the Lilywhites on Tuesday and is now a major doubt for what will be a highly controversial return to Kingspan Breffni Park.

“The shoulder injury needs to be assessed as to where he’s at and to see what way it reacts and if the pain goes out,” Morgan O’Callaghan, spokesman for the Kildare team, told the Irish Daily Star.

“He picked up a bang and it’ll probably be early next week before we know. It’s a matter of waiting and seeing.”

Johnston was not used in last weekend’s Leinster SFC semi-final defeat to Meath at Croke Park, despite having turned out for hurling club side Coill Dubh the previous day, albeit for less than a minute.

If there was good news for Kildare, it emerged that Eamonn Callaghan should make the Cavan game.

“He’ll be there or thereabouts. He has two full weeks’ training behind him,” added O’Callaghan.

Is a traitor not someone who turns his back on his own? Didn’t Cavan drop him and tell him he’s not ‘in the plans for Cavan’ he isn’t a traitor as he wasn’t wanted by his own. In my opinion, Cavan are to blame for this. People have no problem if a manager defects to another county e.g. Seamus McEneany from Monaghan to Meath. Where is the allegiance there? Perhaps some county GAA board will start treating players with a little more respect in the future.

Too much focus on the player in my book, remember they are amateurs who have a life to live.
Should be more around HQ policy on player transfers. Not a new thing to happen in the GAA world.

You understand absolutely nothing about the community ethos or the spirit of the GAA.

Clive you speak of community ethos but at the end of the day, Cavan showed no community ethos towards him and wanted rid of him. Then, the GAA tried to make an example of him yet he challenged everything they threw at him and succeeded. They wanted him to fail so no one else would try and transfer.

Now, had Seanie left of his own free will to play with a better team as Van Persie would say “to win trophys” I’d completely agree with you however he didn’t. Had he left just to change it up again, I’d agree. He wanted to stay with Cavan. He was the best player on the panel by a country mile and was dropped for no reason. He wants to play county football and should. Why should he be prevented from the oppurtunity to represent his county because he doesn’t fit the plans and instead be remembered as the guy who was dropped. When he was dropped it was in all the papers questioning things like ‘what did he Seanie Johnston do?’ He wants to take part on the national stage and should be allowed. It will teach Cavan GAA a lesson and other counties too. Any anyway, if he wanted to transfer to win games wouldn’t he not have gone to Dublin or Kerry?

He could get his place on any team in the country and start in all lineouts. From all the reports he didn’t want to transfer but his county turned his back on him. Where is the ethos in that?

“He could get his place on any team in the country and start in all lineouts” — anything to back that up with?
