A BRAWL WHICH broke out in last Sunday’s Allianz National Football League Division 2 game in Clones has seen both Kildare and Monaghan fined.
Monaghan won the match with 0-17 to Kildare’s 0-12 but the result was overshadowed by ugly scenes on the pitch and in the tunnel.
The melee, which began at half-time and involved around 20 players, prompted the GAA’S Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) to begin an investigation into events.
Kildare’s Brian Flanagan was sent off by referee Joe McQuillan while there were yellow cards for Padraig O’Neill and Monaghan pair Dick Clerkin and Dessie Mone.
And according to Today’s Irish Daily Star, fines of €5,000 have been handed out to both county boards as the CCCC attempt clamp down on on-field violence in the sport.
They are expected to appeal the decision.
