Kieran Donaghy suffers serious shoulder injury as Kerry are hit with another setback

The 2006 Footballer of the Year sustained the injury while in club action yesterday.

KIERAN DONAGHY COULD be set to miss Kerry’s Munster championship campaign after suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder in a club game yesterday.

Donaghy sustained the injury while in action for Austin Stacks in their 0-11 to 1-8 draw against Milltown/Castlemaine in the county senior football club championship in Connolly Park in Tralee.

The Kingdom forward now faces the prospect of 10 weeks on the sidelines and the news is another major injury setback for the player. Donaghy has missed Kerry’s entire season to date due to a groin injury and yesterday had marked his comeback.

The Irish Examiner reports that the player underwent a scan at Kerry General Hospital last night and the results of that are expected to be known today.

Kerry already have to plan without Colm Cooper for the 2014 season due to a torn cruciate ligament injury. Their opening provincial tie is on the weekend of June 21st-22nd at the Munster semi-final stage against Clare or Waterford.

Hardly he’s been a shadow of his former self since 2011. He was pure muck against the dubs in the final. It’s a shame because there was a time when he looked nearly unstoppable. Just hasn’t been able to recapture his past form at all

Would have to disagree there. Thought Donaghy was fantastic in the final against Dublin and I wouldn’t be a fan of his at all. Last year he was awful.

Darran O’Sullivan was Kerry’s best man in the final. He could easily have been man of the match himself.

As a dub married into a big gaa mad Kerry family who had to endure quite a few seasons of merciless slagging, all I can say is ha ha, it’s a pity they haven’t fourteen more players like him, while not happy to see any player injured he’s been brutal for a long time and trading on past glory, not fit to lace the gooches boots.
