Kerry secure Christy Ring final place but Meath and Down must meet again

While there were big wins for Donegal and Roscommon in the Nicky Rackard Cup.

Christy Ring Cup

Kerry 1-14 – Kidare 0-9

KILDARE WERE LEFT to rue an early missed penalty at Austin Stack Park on Saturday as the Kerry hurlers eased their way into the Christy Ring Cup final.

After surviving the early scare, the home side raced into a four point lead with Kildare taking a full 16 minutes to trouble the scoreboard operator.

While the visitors were able to match Kerry in scoring for the rest of the half, they were never able to close the gap and eventually made to pay the price early in the second half when the Kingdom stretched their lead to 1-11 to 0-6.

While Kildare were able to add three more points, they couldn’t find that crucial goal and Kerry eventually ran out comfortable eight point winners.

Meath 1-25 – Down 2-22

No even extra time could separate these two in Trim today with both sides playing their part in a thrilling semi-final.

Once again a missed penalty played a crucial role with the visitors missing from the spot with just over ten minutes left in normal time.

Despite a lot of possession for Down, Meath never allowed them to stretch into too big a lead and were rewarded for their efforts with a replay in Newry next week.

Full details of that fixture have to be confirmed.
