The young stars from Kerry and Mayo were first up in Croke Park today.

WE HAD THE cream of young football talent from Kerry and Mayo first up in Croke Park today.

It was the first of this year’s Electric Ireland All-Ireland minor football semi-finals. We were live from Croke Park and we followed the action all the way.

Kerry struggling to put scores on the board. Killian Spillane off target with their latest chance as his shot from a free drifts wide.

18 mins – It’s taken a while but Kerry have finally got off the mark and that’s thanks for a sublime point by Killian Spillane as he weaved through from the right wing and finished off his left.

20 mins – Now it’s all square as midfielder Mark O’Connor cuts through the centre to point for Kerry.

23 mins – Gary Boylan kicks a terrific free for Mayo and they go back in front.

Sub: 23. Liam Byrne (Bohola Moy Davitts) comes on for Mayo for Cian Hanley. Three times during this first-half Hanley went down injured and he’s finally had to be withdrawn.

Hanley is a huge loss to Mayo as a key attacker in their team and also their captain. Interesting to see how they cope in this low-scoring encounter so far.

34 mins – Kerry rob Mayo of possession as they attempt to work it out at the back. Substitute Liam Carey flicks it to Cormac Coffey who releases Micheal Burns and the Dr Crokes man surges through before clipping over a point.

36 mins – Better again from Kerry as Burns and Carey combine to prise apart Mayo down the centre and offload to Killian Spillane who calmly picks off a point.

37 mins – Liam Carey has made a real impact since he came on for Kerry in setting up points and now he gets on the scoresheet himself.

39 mins – Gary Boylan picks off a free for Mayo but Kerry nearly get in for a goal immediately after as Killian Spillane squares the ball for the inrushing Jordan Kiely who smashes a shot wide.

43 mins – Suddenly this game has exploded to life. Firstly Spillane pointed a free for Kerry after Kiely was fouled and then Tomás O Sé rose highest to flick home a goal following a great break upfield for Kerry by Cormac Coffey. Kerry reflected on a five-point lead but Mayo hit back immediately with TJ Byrne breaking at the other end to bury a goal for Mayo.

44 mins – Good ball winning skills by Mayo sub Liam Byrne who releases Brian Reape to point.

45 mins – Carey’s shot is half blocked down and the ball spins into the air before breaking for Matthew Flaherty to point for Kerry.
