Kerrigan suspension overturned on appeal

Paul Kerrigan’s two-game ban for an attempted headbutt on Armagh’s Finian Moriarty has been overturned.

CORK FORWARD PAUL KERRIGAN is free to line out for the Rebels against Down tomorrow after his two-game ban was quashed last night.

Kerrigan’s case came before a disciplinary hearing in Croke Park last night who examined video evidence from last Sunday’s Division 1 game between Armagh and Cork and decided that the forward had no case to answer.

The Nemo Rangers man was shown a straight red card by referee Syl Doyle in last weekend’s drawn game for an attempted headbutt on Finian Moriarty.

Under the GAA’s new match-ban system, which is being trialled this season, Kerrigan was automatically suspended for Cork’s next two league games — against Down tomorrow and against Donegal on 4 March.

A one-line statement released by the Cork County Board this morning confirmed that Kerrigan is now eligible to play tomorrow.
