WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS STRIKER Andy Keogh has joined Leeds United on loan until January, the Championship side confirmed this afternoon.
The 25-year-old, who has been capped 22 times by the Republic of Ireland, spent last season on loan with both Cardiff City and Bristol Rovers after he fell out of favour with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.
Keogh started his career at Elland Road from 2003 to 2005 and, with his contract set to expire this summer, Simon Grayson decided to bring the Dubliner “home” with a view to signing him permanently.
“Andy will strengthen our striking options,” the Leeds boss said. “He’s got plenty of experience, having played a lot at this level and in the Premier League.
“He’s also returning to the club where he started his career so he knows what it’s like here and understands the place.”
The move will give Keogh an opportunity to hold down a place in Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad for the crunch Euro 2012 qualifiers this autumn. Last week, he was named in the manager’s 32-man panel for the game against Slovakia in Dublin on 2 September.
