How's Christmas Eve going Kenny? Egan training hard for nationals

The Olympic silver medallist also told us that he will be heading out for a jog, or two, tomorrow.

MAYBE WORKING THE Christmas Eve shift is not so bad after all.

Irish boxing website Greenjab posted a picture on Twitter this afternoon of Irish Olympian Kenneth Egan taking a break to stretch in the middle of a gruelling work-out in Neilstown.

Just over two weeks ago, Egan told TheScore.ie his festive focus would be on getting in the best possible shape for a tilt at the light heavyweight title when the Irish national boxing championships take place next February.

“It will be a quiet Christmas for me,” he said. ”The focus is the national championships next year.”

Egan, who won a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, added, “There will be no comebacks from me. When I go, I go.

“I had 10 senior titles in a row and I’ve fought and won in matches all over the world. It won’ be easy when I do go but having a successful career makes it easier to step away.”

Egan was defeated in the final of his weight division by Westmeath boxing star Joe Ward.
