Keane yet to contact Cambridge regarding potential takeover

Rumours suggest that the Corkman is preparing to make a bid for the English club.

IF ROY KEANE is planning to be Cambridge United’s knight in shining armour, he hasn’t told them yet.

Rumours have been circulating around the internet all morning that Keane is planning to make his return to football with an audacious swoop for the Blue Square Bet Premier Side.

BBC journalist Kate Reilly sparked the speculation when she tweeted that “a certain Roy Keane [has been] linked with buying Cambridge United, ” while Setanta Sports claimed that Keane had been “heavily linked” though stressed it was “only rumour at this stage”

However, speaking to TheScore.ie minutes ago, a spokesperson for the club confirmed that “we have not received any official approach from Roy Keane, although we would be very interested to hear from him or anyone who feels that they might be able to provide financial support.”

We are a club with a proud and rich 100-year history, but unfortunately we are where we are financially at the moment.

We would love to hear from anyone who feels that they have the passion and the committment to make Cambridge United great again.

Cambridge were put up for sale in January when chairman Paul Barry and director Adrian Hanauer indicated that they would be willing to sell their shares in the club, citing the need to attract fresh funds to take the club forward.
