GALWAY MANAGER Alan Mulholland is hopeful that former Kildare star James Kavanagh can make a big impact with the Tribesmen in 2014.
The 28-year old, twice nominated as an All-Star, moved to north Co Galway club Milltown last year.
He works as a garda in Galway city and moved to live in Milltown, where his wife is from.
Kavanagh lived in Galway when he was a child and returned there to study in St Jarlath’s College, helping the famed Tuam nursery to win the 2002 Hogan Cup title.
His new Galway teammates Michael Meehan, Niall Coleman, Gary Sice and Alan Burke were on that successful college team over a decade ago. Kavanagh was called into the Galway panel recently and is poised to make his debut for the Tribesmen against Sligo in the FBD League next Sunday at Tuam Stadium.
“Hopefully he will make an impact and will become a valuable member of our team,” said Mulholland.
“He is a quality footballer and he knows a lot of the lads from down through the years so it has not been a problem for him settling in,” he added.
