ONE OF THE world’s top swimmers is set to make a splash in Dublin this weekend.

Katinka Hozzsu, the reigning world champion in the 400m IM, has been confirmed for the Irish Long Course Swimming Championships.

The four-day meet gets underway in the National Aquatic Centre today.

Hozzsu, 23, will compete in all of the individual freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and medley events as she ramps up preparations for her title defence this summer.

The Hungarian narrowly missed out on a medal at the London Olympics last year when she finished fourth in the 400m IM but bounced back with three golds at the European Short Course Championships and two more at the World Short Course Championships.

Ireland’s senior squad will also be in action with Dublin’s Barry Murphy seeking qualification for the worlds which take place in Barcelona in July and August.

Murphy needs a time of 1:00.86 in the 100m breaststroke to qualify, while Sycerika McMahon (100m breaststroke) and Chris Bryan (open water) have already booked their respective places.
