KATIE TAYLOR WILL attempt to complete an historic five-in-a-row at the world championships tomorrow.

The Olympic champion saw off China’s Jinhua Yin in the AIBA Women’s World Championships in Jeju, South Korea earlier.

The Bray boxer booked her spot in the tournament decider thanks to a TKO; Yin’s corner threw in the towel at the start of the fourth round.

Taylor will next face Azerbaijan’s Yana Allekseenva, who came through the second semi-final against France’s Estelle Mossely this morning.

“I’m delighted to have a chance to defend my title tomorrow,” she told Darren O’Neill afterwards.

“That was a tricky opponent out there today. I was surprised that the towel came in. It looked like she hurt her hand in the third round.”

She added: “A lot of the time there wasn’t really a lot happening, just loads and loads of feints. Those kind of matches are just like a chess match really, you need lots of patience.”

Taylor led by two rounds to one on the judges’ cards when the fight was waved off.

“I don’t know what round they scored against us because the girl never landed a punch on Katie I didn’t think,” Taylor’s coach and father Pete said. “Any punch that landed was on her arms.

“[Yin] never tried to make the fight. She was on the back foot for the whole fight. The second round was a close round but we still won the round by domination.”
