“That was a tricky opponent out there today. I was surprised that the towel came in. It looked like she hurt her hand in the third round.”
She added: “A lot of the time there wasn’t really a lot happening, just loads and loads of feints. Those kind of matches are just like a chess match really, you need lots of patience.”
Taylor led by two rounds to one on the judges’ cards when the fight was waved off.
“I don’t know what round they scored against us because the girl never landed a punch on Katie I didn’t think,” Taylor’s coach and father Pete said. “Any punch that landed was on her arms.
“[Yin] never tried to make the fight. She was on the back foot for the whole fight. The second round was a close round but we still won the round by domination.”
It’s the chosen sport, I have a problem with, when saying she’s Ireland’s greatest sports person. She’s completely dominates the sport. And let’s be honest, it’s a minority sport and not very competitive. If her chosen sport would have been tennis or athletics, now that would have been impressive.
Tennis and athletics are both minority sports in Ireland. There is no athlete worldwide in any individual sport that far ahead of all the competition. She is in my mind the greatest Irish sportsperson ever, by a long way.
Nice comment Connor! All we can hope for is that our homegrown athletes do their very best on the world’s stages and that they achieve for themselves a joy in what they’re doing. Katie does no less than that I believe and we are privileged to call her one of our own.
Iam not having a go at Katie Taylor, just people who claim she’s Ireland’s greatest sports person. In my opinion nobody comes close to Padraig Harrington. As for my own claim to fame, that’s yet to come look out world.
Katie T is an Irish legend and a great role model for the next generation, indeed she is an inspiration to women everywhere, her dedication and determination while also been humble and modest is inspiring to behold. KT we salute you.
@Stephen – ‘not a competitive sport’, are you for real? Boxing is probably the most competitive there is. You wouldn’t last two minutes in a ring with Katie Taylor. A round of golf with Padraig Harrington?, no problem there.
Just because not many women, relative to mens boxing, partake in the sport does not make it uncompetitive. To get to where she is, World Champion, Olympic Champion, she needs to be at peak fitness, at a level superior to most sports.
There may not be many women competitions, but those that are, are top athletes. She deserves more recognition for what she has achieved for herself and her sport.
Harrington, now your taking the piss,he not even the greatest Irish golfer (McIlroy),Robbie and Roy Keane,Sonia O Sullivan,Aidan O Brien,Brian O’Driscoll,to name a few who would be rated above Harrington.
People seem to forget that she has not only mastered boxing and won everything going but she played at international level in another completely unrelated discipline.
Has anybody in the world ever done that ? some rugby league players have converted to union but that’s very similar.
The sooner we put an end to this girl boxing fad, the better. Theres nothing sportmanlike or civilised about this and it should be ended.
In my day, girls learned needlepoint, knitting and embroidery and how to darn mens socks but now girls wouldn’t know what crocheting is or wouldn’t know the first thing about darning…..a lost art…for that was what it was.
I blame the education system for not teaching these skills.
Time relearn these skills before they go the way of the Dodo.

Here we go again about Katie Taylor, she’s a good boxer, I accept that but we all have to remember the name of title, AIBA Women’s World Champion. The key here is AIBA; Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur, which in English is International Amateur Boxing Association. At the end of the day, she may become the AMATEUR Champion, in my view you cannot be taken seriously if you are an amateur champion, until she dominates (if ever) the professional scene, only then you can take her more seriously imo. What other Irish amateur world champions are considered great or get this exposure, hardly any.

What a woman, class act Katie
Go on Katie !! Surely success in tomorrow’s final would see her as one of Irelands best ever sporting greats
She is, Ireland’s best ever female boxer, but as overall sporting greats she’s way down the pack.
She can’t be that far down the pack of Irish greats, Has any other Irish sports person dominated there chosen sport like Taylor
It’s the chosen sport, I have a problem with, when saying she’s Ireland’s greatest sports person. She’s completely dominates the sport. And let’s be honest, it’s a minority sport and not very competitive. If her chosen sport would have been tennis or athletics, now that would have been impressive.

Why do we always have to rate our athletes? Just be glad she won and is doing a super job representing our country.
That’s a fair point but she can only beat what’s put in front of her and she’s been doing that for a long time
Nice comment Connor! All we can hope for is that our homegrown athletes do their very best on the world’s stages and that they achieve for themselves a joy in what they’re doing. Katie does no less than that I believe and we are privileged to call her one of our own.

What’s your claim to fame Stephen?
What’s behind that big beard of yours?!
Iam not having a go at Katie Taylor, just people who claim she’s Ireland’s greatest sports person. In my opinion nobody comes close to Padraig Harrington. As for my own claim to fame, that’s yet to come look out world.
Oh you’ve opened up a can of worms now.
Harrington ahead of
Brian O’Driscoll?
Pat Smullen?
Roy Keane?
Henry Shefflin?
Katie T is an Irish legend and a great role model for the next generation, indeed she is an inspiration to women everywhere, her dedication and determination while also been humble and modest is inspiring to behold. KT we salute you.
That would be fine but golf isn’t a sport, and mcilroy is better than him.
@Stephen – ‘not a competitive sport’, are you for real? Boxing is probably the most competitive there is. You wouldn’t last two minutes in a ring with Katie Taylor. A round of golf with Padraig Harrington?, no problem there.

McCoy
Ruby Walsh
Rory McIllroy
Sean Kelly
Mick Kinnane
Id add A.P. to that list too
Jack, is that Sean kelly with his bus drivers urine sample or Sean Kelly who ‘mistakenly’ took those pills?
Nice to c some good Irish news , she just keeps beating everyone they put in front of her . 5 in a row come on
Well done Katie. Best of luck in the final.
Fantastic win. That Chinese bloke she beat looks tough and she made his corner throw in the towel. Awesome.
Go Katie, pure class has to help only having 3 rds in last 4 days.
Is she single?
She’s in a long term relationship with Jebus
Good girl Katie….!!
but mind yourself …
Well done Katie!!!
Harrington, now your taking the piss,he not even the greatest Irish golfer (McIlroy),Robbie and Roy Keane,Sonia O Sullivan,Aidan O Brien,Brian O’Driscoll,to name a few who would be rated above Harrington.
Women’s boxing is very uncompetitive and very predictable .. There is zero challenge for Taylor out there …it must also be boring for her .
yawn!
If sport isn’t your thing why bother reading the article and then commenting on it
Any sport with such a high likelihood of brain damage is concerning. I am happy for Katie and her achievements but I hope she knows when to quit.
Martin, that would mean all motor racing, and all contact and many non contact sports are concerning…
Rugby?
People seem to forget that she has not only mastered boxing and won everything going but she played at international level in another completely unrelated discipline.
Has anybody in the world ever done that ? some rugby league players have converted to union but that’s very similar.

Women boxing is just wrong.
