LONG MAY THESE golden moments continue.
Katie Taylor, once again, posed at Dublin Airport with a Gold Medal, late last night, that was hard earned and much deserved. The Olympic champion from Bray was one of 15 Irish medal winners at the EU Women’s Senior, Youth and Junior Championships in Hungary.
Taylor, who captured her fifth successive European Union title on Saturday after defeating Estelle Mossely of France, was one of the last individuals to disembark an arriving plane. She did not touch down Dublin until just before 10:30pm and faced the cameras, with father, Pete, and Zaur Anita, after walking into the arrivals area to a warm, sleepy-eyed welcome.
The other gold medal winners were Kristina O’Hara, Jacqui Lynch, Grainne Gavin and Amy Broadhurst, who won in Youth and Junior weight divisions.
Dr John Lynch, chairman of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association board of directors, declared, “This is a unique occasion for the IABA and Irish sport and a reflection and testament to all the voluntary hard work of management, coaches and clubs and everybody involved with our sport.
Winning 15 medals speaks for itself. Our athletes have surpassed themselves once again in international competition. They are tremendous source of pride to the Irish Amateur Boxing Association and this is another proud occasion for our sport.”
