Katie Taylor schedules November homecoming fight in Bray

The Irish gold medallist will continue her preparations for the 2016 Olympics with a bout against Finland’s Mira Potkonen next month.

OLYMPIC BOXING CHAMPION Katie Taylor has confirmed she will fight in her hometown of Bray next month.

The 27-year-old Wicklow fighter will take on Mira Potkonen of Finland in front of home fans at the Ballywaltrim Community Centre on 30 November as part of her ‘Road to Rio’ preparations for next year’s AIBA World and European Championships and ultimately the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

“It’s with great pleasure that I can finally return to the ring and box in Bray, I am delighted that I can give something back to my local community, who have extended such overwhelming support for me over the years,” Taylor said.

I’ve been training hard all summer and am really looking forward to boxing at home against a top class European opponent in preparation for future titles.

“It’s great that local fans will have the chance to see me box on a more personable level.”

Irish team-mate Adam Nolan, who was controversially knocked out of the World Championships yesterday, has also been pencilled in for a bout on the night.
