INJURED JOCKEY JT McNamara has returned to Ireland to continue his recovery, it has been confirmed.
The amateur jockey suffered a serious neck injury, resulting in paralysis, at the Cheltenham Festival last month when he fell from Galaxy Rock in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup.
McNamara was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, where he had remained until yesterday when he was transferred to the Mater Hospital in Dublin.
“We are pleased to announce that JT McNamara has arrived at the National Spinal Unit, Mater Hospital, Dublin following his transfer from Frenchay Hospital, Bristol,” a statement issues on behalf of the family reads.
“We wish to express sincere thanks to all the personnel involved in his safe transfer. We will forever be indebted to the staff at Frenchay Hospital for the fantastic care he has received there since his injury. John Thomas is looking forward to the next phase of his treatment and rehabilitation in Ireland. We thank everyone for their on-going support and prayers and ask people please to continue to respect our privacy.”
Continued best wishes to JT and family
It’s never easy but it’s a lot easier being close to home. Good luck jt. Hopefully you’ll be back in limerick soon.
Best of luck.
Hopefully another step on the road to a full recovery JT, if i had any money to spare it would be donated to the fund.
There is no,helicopter pad @ the Mater hospital, which is disgrace. He’ll have to go on the waiting list for the National rehabilitation hospital as the new building has not started.
Martin
Well done Martin for such a mouthful of negativity. You seem to spend your time doing nothing else!
This man is going to use a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He will need 24 hour support for the rest of his life. He needs to be taught to live with his disabilities. He should get the best rehabilition but the Irish government will not fund this section of the health service. They stopped helicopters landing @ hospitals buy turning them into paying car parks. In Dunlaoghaire there waiting 30 years for a new hospital.
Best of luck to JT and his family for the tough days ahead
