Wales and Lions centre Davies signs for Clermont

The 25-year-old will join the Top 14 club on a two-year deal, continuing the exodus of star names from Wales.

WALES AND LIONS centre Jonathan Davies has signed a two-year contract with Clermont, the French Top 14 club announced this morning.

The 25-year-old, who has won 37 caps, agreed a deal with an option for a third season with the side from central France.

“His profile fits in perfectly with the game that we play,” Clermont sporting director Jean-Marc Lhermet said on the club’s website.

“Despite his young age, he has huge experience of top-level matches and is one of the world’s best players in his position. Jonathan decided to leave Wales for a new adventure , and we are happy that it is with the ‘yellow and blue’.

“In addition to his class, he has determination to help us win new titles in the years to come.”

Davies becomes the club’s second recruit after Perpignan’s French international forward Sébastien Vahaamahina.

Davies, who starred for the British and Irish Lions during their victorious Australia tour earlier this year, is due to join last season’s European Cup runners-up next July.
