John Terry will be back playing for Chelsea next season at the Bridge

The former England captain has signed a one-year extension to his contract.

JOHN TERRY HAS signed a one year-extension to his contract with Chelsea to ensure he will remain at Stamford Bridge next season.

The former England captain has committed his future to the club and will embark on his 17th senior campaign with Chelsea for the 2014-15 season.

The 33 year-old’s contract had been due to expire next month and there had been speculation over his future along with that of fellow long-serving players Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard.

The contract has confirmed Terry’s plans for next season after a season where he impressed at the heart of the Chelsea rearguard alongside Gary Cahill.

Terry made his debut for Chelsea in October 1998 and has played 621 games for the club. He has bagged 57 goals and claimed 14 major honours with the club.

“I’m delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea taking me into my 20th year with the club,” remarked Terry on Chelsea’s official website. “I’d like to thank the fans and club for their continued support, and the Manager who was instrumental for me the last season.”

Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay is pleased with the announcement.

“We are very pleased John, who is an undoubted Chelsea legend, will continue to lead the team next season, as he has done for so many years with unrivalled achievement.

“Both Chelsea FC and John have been clear throughout that we wanted his outstanding career at the club to continue, and it is important the matter has been concluded so soon after the end of the season, allowing us to look forward to and plan for 2014/15.”
