Pro-Am: John Joe Nevin to decide future this week

Another shot at Olympic gold or life as a pro? All will be revealed.

JOHN JOE NEVIN, who claimed a silver medal at this summer’s Olympic Games will this week decide whether or not he intends to remain amateur or turn professional.

Nevin, 23, has already represented Ireland at two Olympic Games, but his show-stopping performances in London – particularly the semi-final destruction of world champion Lázaro Álvarez -  have drawn a lot of attention from promoters in the pro ranks.

The bantamweight, who previously claimed bronze twice at World Championship level, this morning tweeted:

Nevin was one of only five Irish athletes to take a medal home from London. If he decides to go professional he will be precluded from the Olympic Games, in which boxing is an amateur only sport.
