Sligo Rovers manager Coleman quits to return to English football

John Coleman and assistant Jimmy Bell have taken over at Accrington Stanley.

SLIGO ROVERS ARE on the hunt for a new manager following the sudden departure of John Coleman.

Coleman and assistant Jimmy Bell have returned to England for a second spell with League Two strugglers Accrington Stanley.

Sligo’s head of youth development Gavin Dykes will take charge of the first team while the Bit O’Red begin their search for a replacement.

Coleman said: “Opportunities to manage in the Football League do not come along too often. I know that as I’ve been out of work before.

So when the chance comes you have to grab it. It’s not a decision that myself and Jimmy have made lightly.Returning home to my former club was just too hard to turn down as well.

Accrington have agreed a compensation package with Sligo for Coleman who leaves after less than three months at the Showgrounds.

The 51-year-old replaces former England striker James Beattie who left by mutual consent last week and has since been linked to the Leeds United job.

Sligo host Drogheda United on Saturday evening (7.45pm).
